(Just a foreward, this belongs in this forum, in my opinion, because it relates to one of the big tools used in App. Cracking)

I had SoftICE installed on the original version of XP, a long, long time ago, and now it seems I can't make the bloody thing work in SP2. Anyone have any tips on making it run? I seem to have a problem with it starting up at all, as it only seems to want to flash a prompt for half a second.

Run it from the prompt, don't just double-click it (just like JtR). If you've already done so and it doesn't work, check for updates.
