Me and my wife like to chat on irc channels together. A lot of the time one of us gets kicked for being a clone. I have tried using irc through proxies, but they still think I am a clone. This makes me think the proxy isn't working, or the applet is doing something I am unaware of because they can see my original IP. Why is this?

Is there a way around this? Is there a way to connect to the channels via a proxy? Or will I need to write my own IRC client to use a proxy.

The applet is written in java, and it'll use your "real" IP because of that. You could get a free shell somewhere and use screen+irssi.

What you -should- do though, is register the two nicks and message an op/oper about this issue.
