Undeleatable file?

Setting the scene: (Windows XP SP2) My friend downloads 10 games onto his computer They don't work He tries to delete them The files then duplicate themselves

I looked at the properties, but the only tab It would let me look in was the "shortcut" tab. I didn't even want to try with this one. Anyone have any ideas on where to start?

Emm… v1ruz. Restart in safe mode (restart -> F8 during windows bootup, login as Administrator or the typical Admin account), then try rm'ing the files. It's a bit easier to use the del command in cmd. Start -> run -> cmd The help command is help. Have fun. -Xer0X

you should give "unlocker" a try:

http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

It "unlocks" a file/folder from other processes or programs using it, in order for you to delete it, move it, or edit it.

The duplication behavior you're talking about sounds like some sort of agent/virus.

Scan your computer for some greyware, too. These days adware and spyware tend to act like virii.

netfish is always right.
