...crappy network

i just decided im gonna make a wireless network just to get some idea of how it works. so i did. and when i go to my network places nothing is there. so i hit some display icons button. it installed something and showed a remote access button next to a name of a computer. i clicked it and it asked for a name and password? i own both of these computers there is no user name and password. i went to my computer and enabled remote assistance… nothing… looked up the name put that in remote access and it says it cannot be found… i want to learn simple remote access and go from there.
