Settings not optimized for screen resolutions?

So, my computer is on the edge of dieing and I'd like to make it last a little longer because I currently do not have the money for a new one.

If I turn off my computer (which I try not, although it became a habit) and then turn it back on later, I get a message when it's supposed to go to the "welcome" windows screen in blue. With a black background it says "not optimized for 1400 x 900" which is my screen resolution. This prevents me from being able to go on my computer.

So, I press f1 when I turn my computer on, go to set up, and select "load set up defaults". This worked several times so I can go on my computer, but if I turn it off again, I get the same error.

A few weeks later, this doesn't work anymore. And I just have to get luck by turning my computer on and off again hoping that one of the random times it won't happen.

Is there any way to fix this?
