COD6 Ripped off. Pissed off.

Thought this would be an interesting discussion point.

Basically today i brought COD Modern Warfare 2. Went to install it and apparently the key code had already been used, I went back to the place that i brought it from and they said 'fuck off its not our problem, get in contact with Activision'. While I was at the front desk the wanker (sales assistant) said "that's impossible". Is it possible? (obviously, but how? Other than cutting open the box)

Quite possible. Someone made a keygen and you were the unfortunate victim of all this when your key, out of however many billion other possibilities, was popped by their keygen. Your best bet would be to contact Activision (as the guy said) and hope that they sort it out (I don't trust the big corporations to do such things anymore so good luck.)

If you really can't be bothered you could google for the MW2 cracks that are filling the net, though I would try contact Activision first, even if I don't trust them all too much.

(I don't know alot about MW2 cracks or anything as I have the game legit. Which is the first time in a long time.)

By keygen or leaked key list I guess, it is also possible that they have a dodgy activation system, multiple discs with the same key even.

Whats more important is can you don't install this game more than once?!?! Or is it steam activation style?

Anyways, yeah it's not the shops responsibility, after all how do they know you didn't just install it yourself?

EDIT: This really is a ashame though, make sure you try your best to get your key re-instated, don't let it pass by and just go for a\ crack. You might even get some free stuff e.g. the nightvision scope!! If you do negotiate remember anchoring! Demand a refund/the game for free.

If you still have the box that the game came in, then call Activision and tell them that you have the UPC on the box. That is a proof of purchase, at which point they are much more likely to believe that your key does not work and assist you.

As wolf said, take the legal route first; if Activision refuses to help you with your legitimate issue, then take matters into your own hands with alternate methods.

Developments.

I told my father about it, and he kinda got on the phone and went skitz. Apparently in Australia we have some laws that force shop owners to exchange/refund goods, if they don't work as they should and apparently these laws are really strict and as soon as you mention 'fair trade laws and breaches' managers shit themselves.

14—Implied conditions as to quality or fitness Subject to the provisions of this Act, and of any Statute in that behalf, there is no implied warranty or condition as to the quality or fitness for any particular purpose of goods supplied under a contract of sale, except as follows:

(a) where the buyer, expressly or by implication, makes known to the seller the particular purpose for which the goods are required, so as to show that the buyer relies on the seller's skill or judgment, and the goods are of a description which it is in the course of the seller's business to supply (whether he be the manufacturer or not), there is an implied condition that the goods shall be reasonably fit for such purpose: Provided that in the case of a contract for the sale of a specified article under its patent or other trade name, there is no implied condition as to its fitness for any particular purpose;

Div:5 Sale of Goods Act 1895 South Australia (Current)

Don't take offense to this, but I used to work in retail, dealt with a lot of cheating, thieving customers, and I honestly don't think that anyone could have convinced me in a similar situation that the customer wasn't bilking the shit out of the store. Don't know how about a person would go about with that sort of scam, but I've seen some pretty creative crooks out there.

I'm glad you got a new game/refund by the way. Hopefully you feel it's worth all the trouble everything put you through. :)

They could sliced open the plastic wrapping taken out the material, then either heated the plastic together in the back or transferred the labels and re-wrapped it.

If you still have all the packaging, you could wrap it up return it.

You seem to be under the false impression that your points on HBH have any relation to your actual skill…..

The possibility that I find the challenges boring and not worth my time in many cases is absurd, right? Because who would want to set them up in their own environment, where they can view logs and learn more deeply about the attack? Not me, for sure. That would be crazy. Not to even mention the existence of other challenge sites. No, doing the honeypot challenges or wargames sites teaches you nothing at all. All your knowledge in computers is based off HBH points. How stupid of me to forget that.

And you seem to be under the false impression that starting random fights on the internet is "Cool"… Which I find incredibly cute!… Very "Jr. High"… But cute none the less! Pinches cheeks!

And if you found the challenges "boring and not worth your time" you wouldn't have done as many as you have… And, also for the record… You can find me on multiple other challenge sites, as well as wargames, honeypot challenges, and security conventions… Plus I programmed for Apple for a while, and now I set up networks and build websites… My knowledge branches out justa lil from hbh… This is gonna be my last post in this thred, cuz I'm not 5 years old and don't feel the need to justify myself to random drama queenz in hbh forums…

Stay classy tho! ;)

Starting random fights on the internet? I was simply stating that you might think your cool or something by writing like that, but in reality we all loose a little more respect for you with every word you write. You were the one who started going off about point and rankings, and you seem to still be doing it…

I don't know why you refer to me as "Jr. High" like, because you were the one speaking like a 12 year old kid attempting to fit in with someone for once.

Oh, and by the way, your using the z's again. It's fucking annoying.

I swear every other thread's got to have at least one argument in it.

…Which probably explains why there are ~45,000 members and approximately only ten posts on the forums daily. Doesn't make for a very welcoming atmosphere.

That said, carry on.
