Anybody redbox?

I recently got a palm pilot, and downloaded RedPalm, a program that generates red box tones. I tried it normally, no luck. But after calling the operator and getting her to place my call, it actually worked. I couldn't believe it. This exploit has been around for how long? And still hasn't been fixed.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody else redboxes.

All you need to do, is make it so the reciever doesn't pick up sounds until the call is connected. (So you wouldn't be able to breath, and hear it in the speaker)

It is still very possible to redbox, Royal wrote a very detailed article on New-Age Redboxing in the last 2600 issue. Here in my area, there are a few COCOT phones that have yet to have been upgraded that you can put coins into and actually hear the coin-pulse tones…that's a tell-tell sign that you can redbox from the phone.

SE'ing the operator still yields results for me when redboxing, just goes to show that there is and will never be a patch for human stupidity…if you listen to Default Radio Episode 28 (http://audio.textfiles.com/shows/defaultradio/ep28.mp3), you can hear Lucky225 redbox using only his voice on a proctor test line.

Yeah, as much of a noob people think Lucky225 is, he really is a pretty leet phreak. I can manage a nickel to register with my voice 95% of the time, I've only ever timed 10cents once, and a quarter is damn near impossible. Because payphone coin tone are done in 5cent increments, you'd have to time 5 nickel tones in perfect timing in order to get it to register…insane.

Proctor test numbers are not that difficult to find if you want to play with them, in my area it is the first three digits of the payphone then 9993. Alot of payphones that are not COCOT are not putting their numbers on the phone itself, you can use ANI to to find this out easily (1-800-444-4444 MCI ANI Number).

I dug up that 2600 article. Great stuff. I'll have to try some of those things out, see if they work here in Canada. That's right, I'm from Canada. B)

Up here, ani used to be as simple as 311. Still is some places. But what is a proctor test number?

A Proctor test number is a phone number that is assigned within a given switch (in the US, alot of phone payphone share the same virtual switch to ease the configuration) that allow a phone technician to run multiple test on whatever phone he wants.
