Well … In my computer i had a 320 gig harddrive which had windows installed on it, i then partitioned it and started to install linux debian on the same HDD there was then a fatal error in the installation and the HDD wasnt being read by my computer so i bought a new HDD and then used it to try and access the old ones data to no avail, so i formatted it this morning as i just wanted to be able to use the old HDD and now windows says that i only have 2.52 gigabytes of storage space. Could anyone help to tell me what ive done wrong or how i can fix this, i thought it may have just formatted the partition i made yet if it has i still dont know how to access the origenal partition of the HDD. any help is greatly appreciated

Does it show as it should if you look in Computer management -> Disc management (not sure what it's called in English, but something like that)? That is, can you see the actual disc? If so then it should just be to remove the partitions and create a new one and format.

Try GParted, and see if you can re-partition it. get the LiveCD BTW (search google)
