Here's my desktop. I recently reformatted, so everything looks nice and clean. I used to have this awesome setup with scorpion as my wallpaper, but I couldn't find it. I guess zombies suffice. Oh, and I blacked some personal stuff out rather than closing it. Yea, I'm lazy like that.

:) I have to laugh at this because I am married and keep pictures of my family on my desktop. I am not going to post a screenshot with them in it, so if I have to change my wallpaper to post a screenshot, it kind of defeats the purpose.

Yeah, I have used that one before… until I realized that skinning XP to look like Vista is a disgrace. Generally, I disable the Themes service altogether in XP because it's a resource slut. When I do allow theming to enter into my XP experience, though, it's Royale Noir above all else. Definitely better than the Zune theme, and certainly better than XP defaultness. To each their own. Blackbox is still better than anything theming XP could achieve.

Same with the Vista Inspirat; unfortunately, the Inspirat gave no detail. The Mac OS X method gave good details… hunt it down and learn from it. Other than that, if you're just trying to change it from green, the Royale Noir and Zune themes will do so.
It's an unreleased theme that was never completed. Your best chance lies in researching how XP "theme managers" and Mac OS X makeovers modify the mouseover view. I doubt it's something as simple as a ResHack, but there's no telling. It's got to be an image somewhere, though. Would research it, but XP is no longer my primary OS. Good luck. :)

Ahh, okay. It's hard to tell anymore with all of the Gnome skins floating around. Also, thought that was AWM, but was hoping it wasn't… last time I used AWM, it was still a bit buggy. Think I was using it on Arch, though; might've been an older build or something.
Only reason I thought it was DreamLinux was because their screenshots make it look like a standard install (AWM, I mean). Glad more customization went into it than that. :)

It was weird. When I installed it on 8.04, it was buggy – liked to randomly close. open 3 docks on top of each other, launchers weren't showing and well, launching.., etc. haha. And then when i went to 8.10, it was fine. I haven't had one problem with it yet… =/ And no worries, I looked at a dreamlinux screenie after you mentioned it, and i nearly thought they looked the same haha.

Im running linux….. In fact, multiple different distributions….
You asked for this. Get the fuck out of here right now.
You think what you chose to use was better than what others use?
Want to know what makes me feel sick? I actually think you just might, or you won't bother reading the next line. You make me sick. You alone think that you can say what is better, and what is worse, what is wrong, and what it right. If you think you can, seriously, get the fuck out of here right now. For further information, see the little thread I made on such matters, if it still exists.
I didn't say, or give the idea, that I control what is better, worse, wrong, and right. What I based my post on was that in the security world, there is much more to learn from linux and its generally a safer OS. Hackers can be really attracted to this OS, imo, for many reasons and I was surprised to see how many people don't use it.
And of course I think what I choose to use is better than what other people use, otherwise why would I use it? But that's merely my opinion, the fact that linux is generally known to be a more secure OS with lots to learn and great amounts of possibilities is just that, a fact.
EDIT: and dont get me wrong, Im fully aware of the faults of linux. I'm not trying to preach here that its perfect and better than windows in every way.

There is such a thing as dual boot. Being as almighty as you make yourself sound sometimes, I thought you would be aware of that. And what does age have to do with using linux? If you have enough brains to manage sql injections, i'm pretty sure you can burn and disk and put it in the drive. In fact, I doubt you have ever tried linux, while i have tried everything from windows to mac to linux to bsd.
How does linux being related to security == bullshit? Please evaluate. I thought having no virus problems, no malware problems, no open ports by default, tons of security apps, wide programmer and hacker support, open source, etc would have related it to security very well.

You doubt I've tried linux, huh? Have you read this entire thread? I think there just may be one or two images showing that I use XP and Fedora, though those aren't my only adventures, not that they concern you, nor do I flash them like a badge of my knowledge. And as I'm using a Family PC right now, I know full well that I can't just format the HDD and do with it what I will, as it's not mine, you see. Being as smart as you like to think you are, I thought you would have picked up on that, as for the age, that wasn't to do with OS choice, more restrictions on OS choice. But, of course, you knew that, right? I mean, a smart individual such as yourself couldn't possibly have overlooked such a blatantly obvious thing. I'm sure you were merely highlighting things that others of lesser intellect wouldn't have quite understood. How awfully thoughtful and kind of you. We need more newbie empathising people like you… To fuck off. Next on your list, I think was one of my little statements. Again, how newbie caring! Such devotion would make one think you're rather familiar with a newbie point of view. I'm impressed. But, what I meant was that not everyone in the "security" field must, or even wish to use a flavour of Linux, as the actual OS doesn't matter when investigating certain matters, except the obvious, that is. Perhaps you want me to elaborate on that, perhaps you're thinking of the newbies again. I doubt that. I doubt many things, but I'll leave those to your imagination, which is what I think you shall have to use, rather than the more practical method of thought. Pure guesswork is never reliable…
Oh, "hacker" support? I do hope to god you're not calling Linux, on whole, a "hacker" OS?
Edit: Upon a further read of your post, I realise just how much you pride yourself in using more than one OS. So sad. I actually feel ever so slightly sorry for you. Congratulations. That's a first. I've banned people without the slightest tinge of sympathy before, and much amusement I have gained from discussions such as this one, but dear god, I've never felt sorry for anyone before.
Well I'm failing to see how someone so intelligent as yourself cant convince your parents to allow you to try it. I mean, if they are fine and dandy to see you visit a site with the word "Hackers" in big letters at the top and probably dangerous looking programs on your computer, you would think you could at least convince them to have something else installed. I mean, I highly doubt everyone using windows on this forum is 12 and cant convince their parents to allow them to install a simple thing. I managed to convince my dad to allow me to install it, while he is literally scared of the internet for fear its evil and we will die when all the computers crash etc. And if this is having to do with restriction of OS's, I would have thought you might have metioned that rather than attacking me for my opinion that I apparently believe is almighty and controling of what is wrong and right when you clearly had it wrong.
The OS does matter very much when it comes to computer security, it seems like an incredibly stupid notion to say otherwise.
And of course I dont view linux as a hacker OS. It seems stupid to ask questions you know the answer to.
As for "pride" in my OS, I was merely stating that I have had a wide variety of experience and still found linux to be the best, compared to most people who have yet to even try anything without a microsoft label on it.
I think im done talking to you, I mean, you jumped out and swore at attacked me when you had the entire idea wrong, then continued to take the conversation in a completely new direction and attack other OS's and insult me all over the place. It seems to me like you just cant handle being wrong. But whatever, you can believe whatever you want, and say whatever you want, cause im not going to be responding to it.

And finally, points are meaningless. Never will you hear me say otherwise. I'm not happy with my setup, no. Family PC, since my motherboard broke. Waiting on funds (£450) to build another. I'm sat on Vista. Usually I would dual XP/Fedora, if you're that interested.
- So you have a problem with me liking my OS so much id put it as a wallpaper?
- What is apple about it? Please elaborate on this
- No i just keep them there because its projects im working on. Anything I store in this hard drive goes into the desktop for active, then into my winXP hdd for storage
- I also got CNN, MyFox, BBC, Gizmodo, Hack-a-day. Its a pretty useful toolbar actually

- Then what are you going off on the apps i keep on when im on the computer?
I really dont know how you can mess up a motherboard but good luck on getting another one. I know the feeling of having to share a computer and it sucks
I'm pretty OCD about having anything on my desktop :p http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7607/desktopccr.png

Bass guitar isn't so unusual with that style of music. Bass is often not string-like in it's sound, whereas a guitar… Just wouldn't fit the style, unless it were a G-Synth, like the kind the bloke out of Pendulum uses.
Mine is pretty simple
http://s926.photobucket.com/albums/ad101/Zkunxen/?action=view¤t=desktop.png I made the background myself, and that is a windows taskbar at the top of my Debian environment. Virtualbox Seamless mode.

I hate windows, but I don't yet have enough money for a macbook (almost, but not quite) then I can scrap windows completely. untill then, I'm just using it for iTunes. I know I can jailbreak my iPod and use open source programs, like that one songbird, or whatever it was, I forget, but I don't like my iPod Jailbroken, it goes too slow, and also, I need my album artwork, it took hours to find all that myself (the iTunes store doesn't have any music I like).
also, my screen isn't tiny, the display settings wont let me choose a higher resolution, I have no idea why, windows allowed a higher resolution, but linux doesn't.
EDIT: also, the iPod classic hasn't been hacked yet, because the iPod touch came out at the same time, so I'd be completely screwed with that one.

I just whipped this one up in about 10 minutes. Simple, clean, yet somehow… awesome. I'm sure it's going to undergo a tweak or two eventually, but I've lost interest for now and already enjoy it.

I hate icons cluttering my desktop picture, therefore I have none - nor do I have any QuickLaunch stuff cluttering the taskbar, just the open programs.
Well, since everybody else seems to be posting here now I might as well join the party: http://ynori7.ulmb.com/desktop.jpg. I just left what I was working on open, so yes that's homework in the background.

Lol, xD
<offtopic :D> I have another netbook, the screen is even smaller. O_O /its one of those real cheap ones that's made for just web-surfing and the hard drive is only 2 gigs. >_< Got it from my friend, I traded him a 4 gig flash drive for it, then went and put SliTaz linux on it, since its only about 30 or 50 megs, and I'd still have a little bit of space left. Lol.
Got a decent sized laptop running Vista. ( :/ ) It doesn't have power cords though, and the desktop is XP, and so is the other one, but its not hooked up yet. Its pretty much fucked because its a used computer and takes about half an hour to boot up, literally. I'm probably going to get the files off it that aren't infected with anything, and then format it and put something else on it.. I'm still trying to decide though. Thinking maybe Frugalware or something, I feel like something less user friendly and more advanced than Debian. Any suggestions for an OS for it? </offtopic :D>
stealth- wrote: If you were looking for something to learn from, you could always have fun with making a Gentoo box if you havn't already set one up.
I thought about Gentoo/Pentoo and Frugalware as well. Pentoo is based off of Gentoo, right?
I'll probably set it up on this little netbook I have. I was going to set it up on this old desktop I have just sitting there, not hooked up, but after messing with it today, I realised I'd have to get a new CD drive to, either that or find a floppy disk that can hold a hell of a lot of shit. Lol. Kinda lame that it can't be boot from a USB drive and that the CD drive is messed up..I don't think any of the CD drives work around here. >_< argggg.

@Night_Stalker: Try Arch Linux.

This coming from someone whom cannot program makes me giggle. Besides what is so 'shit' about it? Not open- source? Who needs open- source when you can have live IL code generation?
Lets end with a fine quote from DevDays 2011. "Disassemble the entire .NET framework, I don't care."
spyware wrote:
MolesteD_ wrote: This coming from someone whom cannot program makes me giggle. :+> Besides what is so 'shit' about it? Not open- source?
Not open-source, not cross-platform, not free…
What an awesome research.
http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page Open- source and Cross-platform and free.
spyware wrote: Not open-source, not cross-platform, not free…
I agree with the first two but not free? AFAIK only the Dev. Environment is not free (at least not the good versions). But the language itself may be used to create commercial applications without paying royalties to Microsoft. Well, your clients pay the royalties indirectly because it only runs on Windows OS.
I also know that when you make something in .NET for the XBOX (XNA) that you don't need to relearn a lot. .NET handles everything for you. Yes its 100000 times slower than C and their framework and distribution is slow and just sucks but it is fast to develop.
But when your create an application and your only target is Windows then why would I bother with C instead of .NET? .NET is faster to develop (AFAIK!) meaning that I (or my boss) get more money/hour.
Same with Visual Basic. The language is one of the worst I have ever seen. Still (long ago) I used it to quickly drag'n'drop user interfaces together so the client had a good idea of the end product. Then I programmed it in another (real) language :). It's just about what you need I guess.
Oh god I'm gonna get flamed now

Minimalistic. Work mostly with keyboard shortcuts.
My rc.lua (awesomeWM config) isn't exactly a state of the art, but this setup feels good.

Ah then I totally agree.
Napoleon wrote: Yes its 100000 times slower than C and their framework and distribution is slow and just sucks but it is fast to develop.
Alright, this is definately the last time I will spend argueing about .NET
It is slightly slower than your full precompiled languages but if you would spend two seconds looking at some graphs you would see that the speed difference between C# and C++ is barely noticable.
The people stating that .NET is slow, and shit, are usually people whom are not familiar with programming at all, whatsoever.
You cannot state that something is slow, and shit because your implementation is slow, and shit.
.NET is not slow, retarded implementatations are. I have seen plenty people claiming that .NET is slow, and pastebin'd a code that made blocking calls on the same thread as the GUI. (Yes, this is slow. not because .NET is, but because it is retarded).
