Information on Crytography

Could someone help me by either telling me ways to increase my expertise and proficiency in Crytography or maybe give me tips. Show me good sites on the subject that start with a bunch of ways to notice patterns and encryptions and being able to decrypt them with more ease than i have at the moment(which isn't much)?

try writing some encryption programs of your own. that's what i did. it's easier to grasp concepts through doing rather than seeing. start simple and gradually make them more complicated.
