Is running a virtual PC practical? Do they run completly seperate from your physical computer, so even if the virtual pc is comprimised, is the physical pc still safe?

Well, vpc is basically a folder.

Like: D:/ws2k3/standard/

It just runs in a folder. Now about it messing up your reg PC.. it just depends. I know you can set it to undo discs.. so when you "shut down" it doesn't merge the discs.. and the best thing about vpc now is that it's free..

Virtual machines are independent of the host operating system. In fact, many av companies use these virtual pcs in virtual networks to test new malware. As far as I know, there have been no compromises through virtual machines that lead to host OS compromises. Many security professionals also use these vmnets to test exploits on emulated server software.
