there are a few ways to this, the most commonly used is by a method called Orange Boxing it is a commonly used method to trick some Caller ID's. Another way is to use PC to phone software (telephony), as some of those programs have the ability for the user to set the Caller ID to whatever you would like it to be. If however you are just looking for a prank, I would suggest Callitfake.com, they have a system where you can place a call to anyone and type what you would like a robot to say, it is rather funny to call Pizza shops and the like.
Using an Orange Box no longer works in alot of places (especially in the US)…there are two primary methods of CID Spoofing right now and those are…
(1) Pay services…
(2) Using an Asterisk server with VoIP to change your CID information via the PBX scripting incorporated into Asterisk itself.
Most of the Pay Services actually use this technique to Spoof CID…learn asterisk and do it yourself or pay Star38 or one of these other crap companies to do it for you.
