HBH Newsletter is alive!

HBH Newsletter is alive!

Hiya HBH, Spyware here. I just wanted to tell you all that the HBH Newsletter project is alive once again. You can thank Cheese for giving me the green light for this project. I'll hope you guys will enjoy this parade.

"What is this parade you're talking about?" Good question. The newsletter will contain a variety of 75 char-width news items. We'll keep you updated on stuff happening on HBH. For example: in-depth article reviews, important threads you just have to check out, discussions, interviews, senseless violence and more! What we won't do: Articles, code submissions and those kind of things. There are other (and better) ways to publish these on HBH.

The HBH Newsletter team right now consists of me, Spyware, and your friendly neighbourhood admin Futility. I've already asked two other (well-known) HBH members for their possible input in this matter, needless to say I hope they'll decide to join the bandwagon. Swart, Mosh, I'm talking to you. This .txt goodlyness needs even more input though, so I'm scouting for talent. Now, look here. I'm mean. And unfair. Not everyone can join the writing staff. If you wish to join the staff of this upcoming project you have to satisfy the following conditions:

-You're not a HBH rookie. A minimum of one year, registered account HBH experience is needed. -I have to know you. Now, this isn't really that hard. I pretty much 'know' everyone who created an article or posted in the forum. Anyhow, no strangers allowed. -You have to be able to write stuff. This is pretty important, some will even say the crux of this whole thing. -You have to be online (for staff meetings) atleast three days in a week. Don't worry about the timezones, we'll do the meetings through a HBH subforum. Slow but steady. -You have to play nice with others. Team effort, and all that. -You may have to maintain some kind of time schedule. I'll be that schedule. Basically, if you say "I'll have it done at X", you pretty much need it done at X. Don't delay us. -This one is really important. The don't-be-an-idiot rule needs to be followed.

Okay, that pretty much wraps it up. Those are the rules.

Good news for the people who can't join the staff (yet), the HBH Newsletter will accept freelance work. Are you interested in publishing your writings? Just give me a shout (PM). ANYONE can try to get their freelance work published. You -DON'T- have to satisfy the rules above in order to do freelance work. You won't be joining the staff though.

Alright, if you're interested in joining the staff, <a href='http://www.hellboundhackers.org/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=41&thread_id=13928#123309' target='_blank'>apply submissions in the thread called "HBH NEWSLETTER SUBMISSIONS". This thread is posted in the "Projects" category and is linked above.

Well, HBH, that's it really. I hope you will enjoy the upcoming newsletter. I'm aiming for a (quick) release, in just two weeks!

This sounds like a great idea. I can't wait to see what the results of it will be and I may even submit something in the future.

I do have a question though. Will there be a section that you can write your opinion and comment on what people are saying in their reviews or whatever else gets written? Kind of like your opinion on the matter if you disagree or anything like that.

Yah, pretty much any good literature can be added. No articles and no code, that's all. And opinions will be a major part of the Newsletter. So, to answer your question, yes.

How frequent will the newsletter be sent out?

I assume that all the submissions that will be done to the newsletter will be proofread first as to not post complete rubbish and even though a concept or a general text might be good, it can many times still use some corrections. After reading the applications in the thread I'm a bit worried about the upcoming quality being lacking in certain areas and thus I'm wondering if there's a possibility to help proofread some of the submitted material.

I can assure you, I will watch over and inspect the quality of the newsletter. I would never send out a newsletter which lacks the quality I, and the other staff members, want. The staff position submissions so far have not been reviewed yet, keep in mind that these are merely submissions, not accepted staff members. If you wish to participate in writing/editing, please fill out a submission. I'd love to review yours, COM. Now, Sabrewulf; the newsletter will be send out when it's done. I'm aiming for AT LEAST one release every month, but basically, when a newsletter is ready, it'll be sent. We're not working with a rigid schedule though. I hope this answers all your questions.

Change takes effort and initiative… and this is a prime example. Take upon yourself the responsibility of contributing new content, and you will see our community grow as a result of it. Contribute the quality that YOU want to see on HBH and in its newsletter. Click the link in the news story to apply. Don't just whine and plead for change: Be a part of the team that makes it happen.

spyware: I'd like to join, if it wasn't for the "three days in a week" rule. Sometimes (not very often though) I'm very busy with studies and therefore I'm not sure I could do this 100% of the weeks. Does this automatically disqualify me or should I post a submission anyway?

Hm. Apply anyway, I'll consider your situation in my review of the submissions.
