ghost | 7395 Reads | I don’t know about all of you, but I’m amazed by the alarming rate at which new words are being created to describe people with a basic knowledge or an extensive knowledge of anything to do with html.
So I thought - I KNOW!, I’ll write an article about it, because I’m sure there are some people on here that have read the description and don’t have the slightest clue what I’m bangin’ on about :] (Don’t worry. I didn’t)
Okay, so let’s start with the hilarious classics -

Noob, N00b, Newb. This crazy word is apparently short for ‘newbie’ referring to someone who is new or inexperienced in an environment. This could also mean that they don’t admit it. NB: But isn’t everyone a ‘n00b’ to start off with? I mean, we don’t pick up a keyboard at the age of 5 and touch type?!

133t, 3lit3 This word is the opposite of the above, it all started when the first hackers were born, and in order for their websites to not be found in a normal key type search they began to use numbers to replace certain letters. (Mostly Vowels) This was called l33t, or leet, or Elite speak. AMAZINGLY - there’s a l33t letter for most letters in the alphabet. But let’s face it, who has the time to type - 1 4m 3l1t3
Okay, so now that’s out of the way we can move on to some more complex definitions. Please note that I’m not a walking dictionary and yes I did look around for some of this information.

White Hat Hacker Also called an ethical hacker, this is the word to describe a person who is against the abuse of computer systems. They typically spend their time securing internet and security systems, rather than breaking into them. I’d like to hope that the majority of people on here are white hat hackers.

Black Hat Hacker This is the opposite of a white hat hacker, and is used to describe a malicious or criminal hacker; often working against the law. They usually maintain the knowledge they gain of vulnerabilities and exploits they find for private advantage - without sharing the knowledge to the public or to the company to help them secure the site or system.

Brown Hat Hacker This is a person who thinks before acting or committing a malice or non malice deed. Personally I just think they’re milking the idea of hats.

Grey Hat Hacker This is a skilled hacker who sometimes acts in good will and sometimes not. They are a mixture of black hats and white hats. They hack for no personal gain and do not have malicious intentions, but may or may not occasionally commit crimes during the course of their technological exploits.
NB: The term ‘hat’ came from the old silent black and white Hollywood movies, where the terms ‘black hat’ were used to describe ‘baddies’ and ‘white hat’ to describe ‘goodies’. The ‘hat’ part is still controversial however.
And finally my personal favourite,
- Script Kiddie, Script Bunny, Script Kitty, Skiddie This (brilliant) word is used to describe inexperienced hackers who use other people’s codes, and programs - without knowing how to use them properly; for the purpose of compromising computer account and files. They also try to hack any website they can, just to prove their ‘superiority’ in the ‘underground hacking community’.

You forgot Blue Hats-A security professional invited by Microsoft to find vulnerabilities in Windows. HAHAHA their lists can go on and on…. :)

Interesting enough. I'd probably lean towards adding more terms, but defeinitely fine on it's own. Thank you for not being one of the many who writes crap and calls it helpful.

Actually, I started using computers at 8 months, I learned both my ABCs and 123s on the computer.
