The great hacker war

Sorry in advance for the shortness of this :D

The Great Hacker War was a 1990–1992 conflict between the Masters of Deception (MOD) and a faction of the older guard hacker group Legion of Doom (LOD), where each side attempted to hack the other's computers. It took place across the Internet, X.25, and telephone networks across the world.

At the wars end, certain facts came to light such as certain LOD members resorted to becoming informants in retaliation for losing the hot war of skill on the world's computer networks.

Another extract, with a bit more info

The Great Hacker War

To pinpoint the start of the "Great Hacker War," you'd probably have to go back to 1984, when a guy calling himself Lex Luthor founded the Legion of Doom. Named after a Saturday morning cartoon, the LOD had the reputation of attracting the best of the best — until one of the gang's brightest young acolytes, a kid named Phiber Optik, feuded with Legion of Doomer Erik Bloodaxe and got tossed out of the clubhouse. Phiber's friends formed a rival group, the Masters of Deception.

Starting in 1990, LOD and MOD engaged in almost two years of online warfare — jamming phone lines, monitoring calls, trespassing in each other's private computers. Then the Feds cracked down. For Phiber and friends, that meant jail. It was the end of an era.

good but a bit short… have you read "The Hacker Crackdown" that's a cool book about hacker culture in the early 90's with a lot of the history of LoD and the most well known hackers/phreaks of all time. Specifically about the crackdown of 1990, the creation of the EFF and the battle for electronic civil liberties.

I was just born in the middle of this. Another interesting "Hacker War" is when the Legions of the Undeground declared war against China and Iraq in the name of human rights.

you forgot to metion that the reason whz master of deception chose there name. if you havent guessed it already it is because they were trying to piss off the Lod by make it one letter down m. also you forgot to explan why phiber optik (or however you spell that) was kicked out. basically he was a bastard and give away some passwords the eric blood axe (who named himself after the viking shaman eric bloodaxe) which would have been fine if he asked. and when eric asked about it phiber pushed him and said something like I dont have to listen to you… or something i forget right now. but zou must also remember that the lod was full of arrogent assholes who tryed to exploit there powers.
after the main group in the lod became security people the mod decided to fight back (well the decided along time a go but they did some more stuff here) one of the four members of the MoD called john i belive hacked into there phone lines and was able to esdrop. after a call came from one of the members of the Lod, eric said something along the lines of Sounds like John Did something. For the hell of it john called at right after that and said Yeah that DOES sound like something i would do. There was a whole lot about it. that this puny article didnt say. i read a book over 200 pages on this War. THis guy should have made this at least a page and tell who the main contenders were. i wonder if he even knows who acid dropper was or scrpoin. or the infamous thanksgiving incident that surrounds this war. who ever voted this article as awesome desearves to be shot. the man who said very good can go and die for all i car the only two scores that this deserve is average and poor. thats all i have to say.

and velocity the Mod stoped ATT for over 7 hours on januarz 15 1990 causeing millions of dollers lost and thousands of long distent phone calls were never sent through.

Sorry if i seem a little mean but i have stroung feelings on this kinda of subject. i belive that articles should at least fill a page and not tell that there was a war but tell what happen.

if anyone thinks iąm wroung then tell me.
