The newbies guide to Tweaking Firefox v2

0 index 1 Why use Firefox? 2 adressbar Commands 3 tweaking |-V2 tweaks 4 explanation
5 notes

this is the second version of this file. I have added a what this dose section to explain what happens. Also i only recommend you do this if you have high-speed or some other form of fast internet connection.

  1. Why use FireFox The first question I am sure your asking is why should i use FireFox? Well Fire fox is a lot safer, its faster and of course tabbed BROWSING!

This is a feature that allows you to open multiple webpages in one single browser its is a lot easier to use as well.

  1. Address's bars commands the address bar is the bar at the top of the window that you type the website URL in to for example www.google.com. You can type any of the fallowing commands in to that address bar to see settings and info menus without the "

"about:" this shows info on FireFox itself "about:plugins" this shows info on any extensions that you have installed "about:buildconfig" this gives you a list of compiler option to allow you to build your own version of FireFox "about:cache" tells you about the file cache, with a full list of links "about:config" lets you look at the Configuration Console "about:credits" shows you names of Hundreds of the people who worked on FireFox

  1. Tweaking Now for the actual tweaking of firefox. Before you start fooling around with the files you should back up the fire fox settings folder… You can find this in "c:\documents abd Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Mozilla" just put that in to the "run" field in the start menu then copy the files in there to you're desktop also just in case the software crashes you should run fire fox in safe mode to do this go to start > run and type "firefox.EXE -safe-mode"

OK lets start tweaking in the adressbar type "about:config" it will load a bunch of options. Change these values network.http.max-connections = 64 network.http.max-connections-per-server = 20 network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server = 10 network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 10 network.http.pipeline = true network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 200 network.http.request.max-start-delay = 0 network.http.proxy.pipelining = true network.http.proxy.version = 1.0

V2 commands Ok this command you have to make a whole new command so right click anywhere a menu should pop up. From there go to "New" then "Integer" name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" after that set the value to "0"

  1. The explanation

network.http.max-connections

This determines how many HTTP connections can be made by firefox at one time. The tweak speeds up browsing multiple pages at once.

network.http.max-connections-per-server

This determines how many connections can be made at once to one server at a time. The tweak allows you to speed up the download-time.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server

Unless you are connected to a proxy server this determines how many connections to the server it will try to keep alive at once. The tweak makes it so firefox keeps 10 connections at once alive.

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy

If you are connected to a proxy this will determine how many connections to keep alive to the proxy at one time. The tweak makes it so firefox keeps 10 connections at once alive.

network.http.request.max-start-delay

This is the Maximum start time for HTTP request

network.http.proxy.pipelining = true network.http.pipeline = true network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 200 network.http.proxy.pipelining = true network.http.proxy.version = 1.0

Most of the time firefox will make only one request to a server at a time. This allows you to make up to 200 at a time which speeds up your loading time.

V2 Tweaks

nglayout.initialpaint.delay

This sets the time that the browser waits before it starts to act on the files it is receives.

5 Notes This is a cool little side not i have recently discovered that if you want to have firefox open multiple pages when you start it (all in separate tabs) This is what you do. First Click tools at the top of your browser then go to options. A pop up should appear in this pop up there are multiple tabs, go to the "general" tab. There should be a form saying "Home Page" this is where you enter the Url to the site you want to be your home page (the site that your browser opens when it starts) if you put Multiple addresses in there separated by this character "|" -quotes that Character can be created by holding down the "shift" key and hitting the "\" key on most keyboards you have now just set multiple homepages! Enjoy

The end!! That's it ! 05/07/2006 if you have found this use full please go to my site www.tcn.fh-net.com or email me at aperfect.choas@gmail.com for more soon to come text files of this sort.

I disagree with your point 1. All you've list is false, Opera is much faster and safer than Firefox. Also its not faster, its about the same speed as IE. I personnally use Firefox and its because its easier to use than IE. Stop saying Firefox is the safest, if IE didnt had ActiveX it would be as safe as IE. For your article i dunno why you prefer to start firefox in safe mode. For the tweaking, it's not particuly good i've try it a long time ago and page were not loading correctly. I needed to refresh it few time before it show correctly. You can try it but you'll see after a while picture arent show at the right place. If it was really faster and good, these configuration would stay as default.

Looks really close to this I saw http://www.aria-security.net/Forums/showthread.php?t=1406 Firefox is by no means faster than IE I have both and prefer IE,It all in the hands of how you control it;)

I only use firefox for the cool extensions. Not for the speed or safety.
