Basic 1- 5

The basic levels 1 - 5 of HBH all require the skill of HTML, the basic web language. If you do not know HTML, you will find these missions other than maybe 3 hard. Excuse me also for any mistakes or mess ups - it's my first article.

Basic 1

This is the basic test of whether you hacker material or not. If you read the above, you will know that you need the skill of HTML. So for all the people that did where can we view the HTML - (View Source). Now that you have the HTML, it is just a case of looking through until you find the password input form.

Basic 2

Basic 2 is extremely similar in the method as level 1 is. Find the HTML of the page and then look through it until you find the iframe tag. Once you have don't that you will see the source / website directory of where the page is located. All you need to do then is just copy it in.

Basic 3

Now for this it's really simple. No real skills needed other than knowing how to install a program. You need to download the browser, Firefox by Mozilla and the user agent switcher extension. I would suggest googling because this would be the easiest way. Then once you have the program and extension installed just add another user to the user switcher tool.

Pick up an extra five points off other challenges level 4 for using Firefox :D.

Basic 4

Now for this the clue is in the sentence - "ERROR: htpasswd.php file not found in basic4/". So if it isn't located in basic4/ of there web file directory where is it found in, Where is it hint* another basic folder *hint.

Basic 5

This kind of stumped me as when i did it because i didn't know what a wildcard. By now, i thought you would of thought to view the HTML in it. In it, it has "<!–attention admin: * is a wildcard –>". So this obviously means that * is represents a wildcard. A wildcard is like a random value for something such as an email or password.

Heres a hint - Lets say we don't know any values for the user which would be an e-mail address on there.

Take google for instance - www.google.com would be ::* . The first * means www, the : means the ., the second * means google etc. So we know : represents a . What would an email address look like then?

Once you have figured it out, type it in and congrats

P.S. I am no pro hacker but if you would like learn to hack, I suggest you learn JavaScript then PHP after HTML and then carry on with a programming language such as Q Basic. Also i'm still learning and i hoped this helped :D.

Actually- that's not how 5 works exactly. If you were typing www.google.com with wildcards you would still type ..*

The reasons that you need a : in the mission is because of the format you enter information into the bar. username:password

  • is actually any letter, any number, and most symbols. If you were to type * then it couldn't include an email because the * can't be a @. However @ would count as an email, as would @.*

The thing is that this mission doesn't actually run the scripts it claims to run. It's simply looking for you to use a certain combination of wildcards and other symbols. For this reason, @.: doesn't work as an answer (I tried this and was so enraged by how close I was XD). If it were really checking a database and if * was really a wildcard then @.: would be acceptable, but HBH lied to us =P If you want more proof that they lied, once you get the answer try using two wildcards in place of one and it won't work XD Those devilish fiends.

If I tell you anymore it'll add a massive spoiler (if this isn't already one).

I was confused at first as to how the answer to this mission works, but once someone explained it I figured out the logic behind it easily.
