PS. As Mr Noob said, XAMPP is essential, but i recommend you add extension = php_curl.dll in your apache/bin/php.ini file, can't believe they forgot to add cURL in there :/

Well, I rated a poor, so I feel obliged to explain. First, most of the programs listed a really unnecessary (most linux distros are pre-installed with the open ssh client, all machines these days have an ftp client installed, firefox is nice but not a necessity, all the addons are fun toys, but really not needed)

Line by Line: line 1. I've always though articles should be at least a bit formal. At the very least, avoiding simple spelling and grammar errors. line 4. You state people should have a "good machine," but you never define this phrase. For me, a good machine is one with a NIC, some version of *nix installed and enough RAM to run X and a graphical browser (for simplicity's sake), as well as clients for popular protocols installed. line 5. The internet? Really. I don't even know what to say to this. line 8. Why in god's name would a cracker use windows? Most scripts that are used for enumeration and pen testing were written on, and for, the *nix platform. There are few exceptions. line 9. Why is an email address necessary, again? Sure, it's nice, but you can get by without one.

grouping of all the tools: These aren't really essentials, they are nice addons. Most of them are just graphical interfaces for command line tools that most people should be able to use anyway. WTF at a flash decompiler? Short of hacking games aimed at 10-year-olds or breaking into sites that are completely inconsequential, I don't see why this is necessary. And if you're going to advocate windows (which you refer to negatively) OR linux, at least give alternative tool sets for linux.

Short of challenges are HBH and the like, no web master goes to the trouble of checking referrers and user-agents. There's just no benefit: everyone knows they are easy to spoof and it's like installing an encryption system then passing out a private key to every user: if the site matters, that means hundreds or thousands of private keys in circulation: it's only a matter of time until one of them falls into the wrong hand.

Definitely throw in netcat, nessus, sam spade, nmap, sl, all pstools, metasploit, milw0rm, tight ass fucking security boot disks. Put bt2, phlak, knoppix, and dvl in there. I only dual boot windows/fedora because I somewhat like windows.

Funny how all 12 awesome ratings were made within the same hour. Don't believe I've ever seen any article that well received; even a high-quality one. How pathetic do you have to be to create random accounts to rate your own article Awesome? Why don't you just try to write an "Awesome" article and be done with it? I'm glad you're finally leaving; you won't be missed, you useless pile of crap.
