Ways around Internet Censorship

By: BlackAce227

The Internet is an abundant source of information that can be used anywhere in the world. It has completely changed the way we do things and has totally revolutionized the way we think. Just think of the internet as a huge library that anyone in the world can access. But If only that were true. The Internet is more of a library that has bars than a free flowing source of information. Some people own the keys to the bars and some do not. This article will show you how web censorship has completely blinded some people from accessing the entirety of the internet and in some cases accessing the internet at all. This article will also show you how you can bypass Internet censorship and censorship software by using some popular methods that I have indicated below.

Since China is the most notorious country to use internet censorship, I shall use them as an example. Millions of Chinese people wake up each morning unable to see sites we take for granted such as cnn.com, newsweek.com, or other sites that the Chinese government has deemed dangerous. There are a couple ways that the Chinese people or any other country facing internet censorship can use to defeat the internet censorship software or in Chinas case the Great Firewall of China.

Another form of Internet Censorship is the parental control software to protect children from accessing pornographic material or suicide sites that the developers feel are not suitable for children. These Software names include Net Nanny, I-Gear, CyberPatrol, Smartfilter, and many others that I dont want to waste space on. That may be all well and good, but censorship software like Net Nanny and CyberPatrol and all mentioned above can also block sites that do not pose any threat at all. Heres an example. CyberPatrol has blocked websites that are hazardous to little kids like envirolink.org, religioustolernace.org, and alww.org (Adoption Links Worldwide). These parental software utilities are not as good as they are cracked up to be.

To counter these forms of Internet Censorship, you could use a web mail server to email the site to you so you could view the site in your email. Just follow the syntax of the different mail servers and then wait for the site of your choice to come in the email address specified. Here are some web mail servers that I use and the syntax associated with them.

Examples:

If you wanted to use the mail server pagegetter.com you would type in the following into your email message

To: text@pagegetter.com Subject: none (leave blank)

Then in the body type: Get < URL > (no spaces)

The following email would reply with the URL of your choice in text (to save space on your email program) if you wanted all of the graphics, just change the To: text@pagegetter.com to web@pagegetter.com to get the webpage in html. This looks better but takes up more space if you use a free email account like Hotmail, Yahoo, or Netscape.

There is also another way. I do not know if this is still up or not, but there are a couple of third-party sites that will pull the sites that you specify off the net. This works sort of like a P2P system because the site pulls the site that you want from another persons computer so that you can view it. The site that I was familiar with was www.peak-a-booty.org but I dont think its up anymore.

Well I hope that this article has proven useful. Enjoy

Theres also another way to get round web page blocks!! You can go to translation pages like http://www.freetranslation.com/web.htm and http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en, ok, im guessing that the page you are after is in english and you dont want it translated to any other language, rite? Go to one of those sites and type in the url. in the language box it will say sumthin like "english to french" or sumthin like that! change it to somethin wierd like "russian to english" last language must be english. hit translate and the page will come up in a frame uncensored!!!B):)

Also for security programs like Novelle when they block off a site it is only the speicific URL. Translator sites work as mentioned before. But even better are Web Based Proxy Servers. www.proxify.com WAS one. As these sites would spoof the URL.
