After weeks of speculation and leaked versions of software, Microsoft has released two service pack updates for Windows Vista. Microsoft also confirmed last week that Vista Service Pack 1 and XP Service Pack 3 are being tested. Since the end of July, two unofficial versions of Windows Vista updates have been in circulation, after they are thought to have leaked via an unnamed channel. Yesterday Microsoft announced its official release on the download centre, though it will not give a date when it will become available via Windows Update.

Virus writers are turning their attention to social networking sites and other user-generated content networks to steal personal information and create botnets, according to an anti-virus expert. Toralv Dirro, security strategist at IT security company McAfee\'s Avert Labs research team said that over the last ten years the threat landscape had changed beyond recognition and that hackers were now looking at attacking new web 2.0-style sites as they were rich in sensitive data.
