Cannot Connect to SQL Server
Cannot Connect to SQL Server
We've all been experiancing it. Basically, as HBH grows and grows, it uses more and more mysql resources because its a database driven website. Shared servers arent used to hosting sites of this size along with many others. Ideally HBH needs a dedicated servers, but since funds wont cover that shared hosting will have to suffice.
So im under going a very long task of recoding a few things again, and i think possibly a certain rarely used page has a accidental mysql loop or something that might be causing the problem. So i have to check every page on HBH and cross reference it with logs to see whats the main cause of this error. This means manually checking several hundred pages. So this isnt gonna be a over night job.
Very sorry for annoyance and inconvience caused. Im working to fix this issue.

My friend, has been a family friend for years, and is also my Dad's mate so he should be able to get some parts, also my dad, knows a few people in the industry, ("Don't Ask, Don't Get"). As for my bandwidth, it is unlimited. :)

very nice idea zenaku. it works and also keeps cost down a bit fore Mr_Cheese. I like the idea of a load balancing setup. Think we could set that up to work somewhat like SETI@HOME works, where it uses spare process cycles? I'm not sure if that would even work because of the way SQL is done, but its a thought.

GAH Mr_Cheese never noticed that you used adengage (i have the ads disabled). Switch to google adsense… its a MILLION times better. For having a tiny site up for about a week i made a total of $26.00. Think of how much you could make with a big site like this. If you would like since I love helping out. I could be in charge of the ads on HBH and could send you monthly payments through paypal. I could send you the code to for the ads to put up, and then thatd be all you would have to worry about.

TrueHacker. HBH did have google adsense but if i remember right they never payed up because its was an "illegal hacking site" or something daft.

Makes sense. (Its interesting though, because Adengage told me I couldn't put their ads on my hacking site because for the same reason). Im going to send a few emails out and see what I can do. Hopefully we can set this up though. Itd definately be a big help

Truehacker, why not set up another tiny site, and donate profits to HBH! In fact, if everone who could be bothered set up a site to help HBH, say on a free host, and put ads on then we could make a list of em, and once a day we could each visit em all to click the ads once  Just an idea

excellent idea. i've already got ads on my site, not generating to much profit, but once it does ill definatly add them to the fund.

seems like everyone is finding ways to donate money :P!! i hope i can get my parents to buy me a hbh shirt (or 2 :)), or i'll give them money to buy them for me :P

We should set up a "Donate Day" and then, everyone raises as much money as possible and donates it on that one day, hopefully HBH can get in one big bulk amount to help towards the new server! :right:

ha i didint think of doing that putting adds on free hosting sites, when i get my personal server working ill make two or three on it with adds.

AbSoRb has had the best idea yet. I think if everyone gave the money they make from the ads one their site, for one month, mr cheese can have a pint from us!

@-The_Flash- OMG! A WHOLE pint? wow, I guess we'd be rollin' in the dough then, eh?

wouldnt it also help the db out a lot if we deleted members. Say ones that havnt finished any challenges and havnt been active in the last year. That should clear enough people out for the time being… and then we wont be getting all the sql errors and by the time we get a ton more members again Cheese will have finished editing all the pages. (we could of course keep the total members number the same)

Cheese if you need a fresh pair of eyes to look over the code just give me a shout. I can look it over and possibly(no guarentee) improve the database interaction a bit better :-D You know how to get me ;)

Seems like this problem has been fixed, I haven't gotten that message for about a week now  Great work Cheese!

well its not likes its going to be permanently fixed, its an ongoing process to keep code efficient
