Cannot Connect to SQL Server
Cannot Connect to SQL Server
We've all been experiancing it. Basically, as HBH grows and grows, it uses more and more mysql resources because its a database driven website. Shared servers arent used to hosting sites of this size along with many others. Ideally HBH needs a dedicated servers, but since funds wont cover that shared hosting will have to suffice.
So im under going a very long task of recoding a few things again, and i think possibly a certain rarely used page has a accidental mysql loop or something that might be causing the problem. So i have to check every page on HBH and cross reference it with logs to see whats the main cause of this error. This means manually checking several hundred pages. So this isnt gonna be a over night job.
Very sorry for annoyance and inconvience caused. Im working to fix this issue.

That's not insulting your challenges or anything, I have no idea what they are, and I kinda misunderstood, I'm sure you're not trying to "buy" your way onto the site, I just presumed you had been turned down before and didn't bother making better ones

OK, everyone click an AD, now! Or how about everytime you log in, open a ad in a new window/tab……….

lol. Or donate/ buy t-shirts. I will do that once I get enough cash… and set up a pay pal account. Is there another way to do it without paypal?

Hmm… how much do you get from the ads at the bottom left corner? And how often can you get paid for each ad clicked by the same person? Just to see if you need an astronomical ammount of ad clicks to be able to afford the dedicated server or if it's possbile that those ads might be the solution if everyone click them as often they can.

ads pull in around $5 a month, where the current hosting package is around $15 a month. lol.

lol… How much do you accualy take from your own pocket? But the thing I wanted to know was how much you get for each click.
Mr_Cheese 18 years ago
each click is like $0.02 and from my own pocket, its around £3 a month unless people are very kind and donate like mozzer and only_samuria :)

heh… me too! Mr_cheese, I'll be giving more as soon as my next paycheck shows up.
ghost 18 years ago
Technically i am a donator to, as mozzer buys me stuff, so he is my wallet. Therefore the money is comming from my wallet. Comprende? I will donate some money ASAP! :ninja:

Mr_Cheese, if you would like I have a friend who owns a computer shop, and I could see if he can spare some parts, so I could wack together a PC to act as a dedicated SQL server for HBH, PM me if you are interested, as I could set it up and run it from my 10MB Cable connection, or if you would like, we could discuss setting up a load balancing setup within HBH members willing to run a SQL server on their home boxes. Give us a shout setting up servers is what i'm good at.

Nice idea, zenaku. But surely your friend will want some help, 10MB! If you run it off your home connection you had better hope you dont get charged for bandwidth, otherwise you bill will be kinda big! lol
