Cannot Connect to SQL Server
Cannot Connect to SQL Server
We've all been experiancing it. Basically, as HBH grows and grows, it uses more and more mysql resources because its a database driven website. Shared servers arent used to hosting sites of this size along with many others. Ideally HBH needs a dedicated servers, but since funds wont cover that shared hosting will have to suffice.
So im under going a very long task of recoding a few things again, and i think possibly a certain rarely used page has a accidental mysql loop or something that might be causing the problem. So i have to check every page on HBH and cross reference it with logs to see whats the main cause of this error. This means manually checking several hundred pages. So this isnt gonna be a over night job.
Very sorry for annoyance and inconvience caused. Im working to fix this issue.

Its ok. at least we can get on it now, but it would be nice to never see that dreaded message again

would it help if some people donated sql space that you could connect to remotely?

heh…..how much are dedicated servers? I'd be willing to donate more that an we could try leading some sort of "fund raiser" or something not quite so lame sounding, but you get the point. id be willing to help out with that. no worries on the sql problems, it seems the only time i do any hw is when the servers are down! :-p

God that sucks, you have to check all the sql code w/ the logs? That is gonna be annoying…but we all know that it is a worthy cause….Je DETESTE le message de sql. (crap to much studing for french exam) I HATE the sql message…god speed my firend…hopefully you don't have to run ALL the code.

ugh. thats pretty steep, i would be willing to contribute to helping pay for it and im serious, we could find some way for our site to make money, legit i mean. Not like go hack paypal….lol. we've got some pretty impressive skills as a group. why not put this stuff to some good use and help mr_chesse fund this site.

heh…not quite what i had in mind, but it works. Go for it ya'll. This site is as much ours as it it Mr_Cheese's. Yes he puts his blood, sweat, and tears into this, but we benifiit from it so much we need to give back and help out.

@only_samurai - what would you expect us to do? Code in our free time and donate to HBH (which I already kind of do) or what?
ghost 18 years ago
I think he means that it should be us paying for it instead of Mr. Cheese because he does the hard work and stuff and it's unfair on him.

hah…no, im not saying to go off and do something so drastic. i;m really not sure what i would have people do honestly, but between the group of us, im sure we can find a way. I'm just kinda talking right now, i haven't got a concrete idea yet. and i realize alot of people cant donate, too young, dont have the money and that alot of people cant pitch in because they dont have the skills needed, yet….but some of us can work together….i plan on donating more as soon as i get my next paycheck, because i can. but really, im not trying to make anyone do anything, just throwing some ideas out there

We had the same thing a couple of months ago when HBH was heading towards financial difficulties, I can't see there being any new ideas since then
ghost 18 years ago
heh…..i know man. im just trying to see if we can get anything going. nothing wrong with trying to be proactive

if you put some of the challenges i coded up… that i dont think were easy ill submit $50 from my checking account to hbh for their dedicated.
ghost 18 years ago
If the challenges were considered too easy or otherwise not good enough don't attempt to buy your way onto the site, it'll spread and turn HBH into a pile of n00b/repetitive/useless challenges
