JTR - basic 12

i opened JTR up in cmd hoping id be able to crack the hash but it says it dont know what to do when ive opened it in there cause i type something like john password.txt etc etc and it just keeps saying the system cannot find the file sepcified, like its still waiting for me to open a file in cmd which i already have… please help

i know i need to change it to the file in use for the cmd but im not sure how. lol. please flame me if u wish :(

Use "john-mmx password.txt" ;). And btw, u need to cmd to the folder where john is installed (/john/run/).(and also the password.txt needs to be in the same folder)

im having trouble trying to cmd to the folder, its in the C:\john\john\run\john-mmx.exe directory

i put C:\john\john\run\ in the cmd hoping it would open up the folder directory and it said there's a syntax error, im not sure why

how long does it take to crack and do i save passwd.txt like this "user=sdbkhfksdsksb"

yes, just save it into a text file like that (without the quotes) and it should work there is no set time for cracking password hashes, but it shouldn't take more than a few seconds if you use a good wordlist.

edit: ah yeah, didn't even notice the =, it is :

no user:hash

and it changes depending on the hash. if you want it this week get a BIG wordlist. i got a 12 mb one off bittorrent. in fact i think it may have been mastergamer that put it together.
