Basic 6 help

I have read as much as I could find, and I need to know what Im doing wrong with my chmod command. Here it is, it is in the form of the format it is suposed to be in, because I dont want to give out any spoilers. PM me if you are going to give a big hint or a spoiler

$chmod (Permission) (file location) and is the delete command for Unix just del? or delete?

theres a space between the $ and the command ;)

the unix command for deleting is rm ( as in remove)

i have the comand right but it doesn't seem to work. can i pm somebody for help?

Im sure I have the right commands, I just can't figure out how to find the directory. Is it a URL?
