basic 12 with cain??

is it possible to brute-force the hash with cain???…cuz JtR doesnt work in my comp…it shutsdown imidiatly…:\

the hash is DES and cain has no possibility of cracking DES encrypted pw's.. so yes you need to use jtr.. lolz and the reason why jtr shuts down immediately is because you're running the exe from the folder in windows right :P

save the hash in a .txt file on a drive.. open up command prompt, go to the folder jtr is in and give this command: john-386 C:\blabla.txt

where C:\blabla.txt is the location of the .txt…

assuming you're running windows :P, open up your start menu, click on: Run, type in: cmd, press enter, you get a command prompt, if you don't know how that works, add me on msn!!

still it says "No password hashes loaded"…bah!!!

create a txt file and put only one line in like this: USERNAME:PASSWORDHASH

then save it and do the jtr command thingy :P

yeah thx, i hate it when people are redirected to google and have to find it out themselves.. i think that when u've come to the point of asking it here, you must have been through a lot of search engines :P

when jtr says 1 password has loaded etc. do i have to do anything? or just let it sit? when i press keys on the keyboard i get things like

guesses:0 time : 00:00:59:27 etc etc trying aioh34-azhoi45.. am i supposed to not press anything and just let it sit there? or..?

it creates a .pot file (sometimes associated with power point) thats the output serch you pc for pot files :|

Ive been messing with jtr for a bit today after reading this thread im a little more clear on a few things . But im still having problems opening John via cmd . But that im sure is do to the fact that i have not placed the signature from open wall dot com anywhere . Any suggestions as to where it gos . The description on how to install John is vague let alone they give you the place the signature is required ! …………………………. Heads back to google while waiting for a reply ……………………………….

uhh… you dont really open or install JTR… you just put the run folder on your desktop.. and just use command prompt to get into that directory.. then just run each thing the way it goes… there should be a JTR article somewhere on this site ^_-

Yeah i did extract the files to my desktop and this is the locatrion :

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\john1701\run

But what would i type in to access that through cmd ?

cmd starts off like this :

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator :

Do i fill the rest in like this :

Desktop\john1701\run\john-386

Obviously someone dont use cmd that much lol .

fun advise learn your way through Dosprompt its a good friend to have ^^ but yea it should look something like that if RUN is on the Desktop then check the directory… it should have something to the extent of Johnm386 or something in it.. try looking for the JTR tut on the site somewhere… it should tell you everything you need to know ^-
