graphical errors

in some games i have or used to have i have noticed that if it is a large game with good graphics that sometimes there are lots of multicolored shapes that appear and flash on the screen. this happened on my old computer with World of Warcraft when i used to play. and now it is happening with the game Elder scrolls Oblivion on my labtop. is this a video card problem where i should get a better one? or if not could someone please give me a way or suggestion on how to fix this if they know how.

It's definately your video card.

First, update your video drivers. This is free and can solve many problems. Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp ATI: http://ati.de/support/driver.html

If it still doesn't work you may want to buy a new card.

Does your computer freeze when this happens? Is it persistant or does it just flash then return to proper display?

is it ingrated graphics or not because if it is there are cases where motherboards have faulty integrated graphics chips.

Also if not integrated graphics what graphics card is it ?as their are some incompatibility issues.
