GFI LANguard Network Security Scanner

im currently using this and everything works fine, except.. port scanning.

im on Windows XP Professional, with SP2 installed with all latest updates, i have Norton firewall, but i disable it for scans, but keep Norton anti virus running.

every time i try a full TCP & UDP port scan, it returns with 0 TCP and 0 UDP ports are open.

this is quite a problem considering port scan is a major part of the scanner.

i know its not the firewall blocking it, everything else works fine, port scanners that i've made work fine, so i know my computer can handle sending port scans.

anyone know of a way to fix it?

would this be a problem with my router not allowing the packets to be sent? if so.. why is this the case?

would it be a conflict between GFI Languard and another application?

would it be a compatibility problem with the service pack?

any help would be appreciated :)

Cheese,

I have the same software… with the same problem. Norton considers the TCP echo of the packets from the scanner as worms (or in this specific case, dangerous packets); They dropped and usually leave you with unreliable results.

If you temporarily disable worm protection, and scan your targets, then it should work. If it's a keygen problem, then personally contact me, and I'll see what I can do.

well i've disabled anti virus, firewall, windows firewall and still its comming up with 0 ports open.

perhaps you could PM me your msn and you could help me a bit further over msn?

ideally, if you could speak with me before 5pm GMT tommorow that be cool, coz i kinda have to have this software working by then.

so.. contact me asap please :)

Langard sucks, It doenst work half as well on scanning as nmap.

I would say uninstall it.

languard has loads of more features than nmap and does vunerbility scanning… not just simple port / service scanning.

does anyone here have experiance with penetration testing tools? if so, what software would you recommend.

GFI Languard is really ideal for huge tasks that require a graphical representation of the network clients and servers.

It's more informative than NMAP, and is therefore (and logically) a better choice to go with.

I think it puts the reports in a log… you might have to go to C:\program files\nessus (or ur install directory).

yeah i thought that and had a look around, but nothing is being saved.

the program tells me the report is there, coz i can click on it.. when just when i click on it within nessus, nothing happens.

baah, hate this comp.. need a new one.
