Rooting 1, I've reached etc

I'm in /etc/ and have tried every viewing command I can find (e.g. view, edit, nano, open and even vi) to try and get the pd file, I even tried navigating to the /pd/ and /shadow/ directories but to no avail. What am I doing wrong?:@

I'm also in /etc direcory but what the hell have i to use to see the file ? Can someone PM me ?
