3D Design with Rhino 3D
i been using Rhino 3D for quite a while now, and seem to be getting the hang of creating charachters in nerbs. but problem is i find texturing really difficult on nerb objects, which i've been stuck on for months now.
i know theres a way of un-wrapping objects in 3D Studio Max, but i importating Rhino files into 3D max kills my computer.
so is there anyone that uses Rhino 3D too? perhaps you could give me a few quick tips on texturing and unwrapping, coz at the moment im just using trial and error to get my textures, but they always look crap.
ive never used Rhino, but basic thing applys to all the modellers im sure.
You need to make a UV map of the model, which takes parts of the model and puts it on a flat image in which you can texture. The process takes a little time as youll be wanting to organize it for easy texturing, such as eyes are seperate from the legs.
after you have uv mapped it, you need to export the model and there should be a file in the location you exported it which has the map displayed on it. I find it best to open photoshop and create a new layer over this on color so you can still see where the lines are and once your done you can change it back. once done save it and it should be already applied to your model.
just open your model in a viewer or the program (your gonna have to probably import. its like the only way since its been exported) and you will see that the model has your texture.

I use Anim8or from Anim8or.com. Anyways I'm gonna be making videogames over the summer and stuff so I'm learning about game engines and stuff. I dunno about Rhino, but like he said make a UV Map and if Rhino uses modifiers there's one called UVW Map and UVW Unwrap. I don't know if that's how Rhino works though. I'll try getting a trial version over the summer. Can't be too hard to figure out.
