The challenge name is "Well Known Exploit", however, it only concerns exploits in well known CMS or forum software. Would an exploit in a well-known security related application also be accepted or is the CMS/forum rule very strict?

A well known CMS or forum software, is just giving you two examples, as long as the exploit or vulnerability in question is credited to you, and can be verified via the link you submitted, there should be no problems.
