I want to hack a user account on my computer. i have already tried cain and cracked it once but the other user found out and created an apparently very strong password. i need any suggestions as to how to crack it very quickly without any desktop icons showing up like with cain.

That's easy here's a secret. You need to change your registry, Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents. In the right pane right click OOBETimer and change to value to 1. Restart your computer and it will display all the passwords in plaintext in a command window. Let me know how it goes for you.

No, you don't want to "hack" anything. You want to gain access to someone else's privileges, most likely your parent's/sibling's, using a cheap, well-known trick.

You know you can delete those icons, right? In fact, I'm pretty sure you can disable their creation in the installer. #facepalm#

My suggestion? Burn an ophcrack livecd, and boot into it. If the rainbow tables there fail (which they might, assuming the password is truly "very strong") then dump the hash with the same utility and submit it to plain-text.info. Assuming your target hasn't enabled NTLM, you should be golden, as they often crack LM hashes of 10+ chars.

Also, learn to use your fucking computer before you go claiming to desire to "hack" something. The fact that you can't manage something as simple as desktop icons gets me pissed off when you want help with doing something potentially malicious to someone else.

yeah i deleted to icon on my account and it showed up on the other account. i told it upon installation to not display desktop icons but it did on the other account. And the password is i think around 14-17 digits containing captial letters numbers and symbols.

Simple enough, look into learning some tech first, it's worth it. Just restart the computer in safe mode, on some older models there's a backdoor assuming there's no BIOS password that allows you admin access in safe mode to delete passwords in xp, so you don't NEED to know the passwords. Have fun, be smart, and that's not hacking, it's called a backdoor, a very simple one.

Learn some, look around, don't be afraid of anything (save police and school officials assuming you think that's a go ahead for illegal activity)

Learn about what? He clearly doesn't care about the structure of windows' password storage system, or the hashing method utilized, or the permissions that restrict him from controlling the computer, so why teach him? It'd be a waste of my god damn time to tell him to google something, only to have him come back later whining about how he couldn't find anything. It took me all of thirty-fourty seconds to type my more verbose reply, and he'll probably shut the fuck up and haxx0r his mum's computer now. Plus, it's boring to type brief little flames and scoffs. I like exercising my own brain to remember what I'VE learned. Damn it.

yea go with that.. I'm so surprised how many people pull the "crap i forgot my password can someone help me" or the "my dog ran across the key board when i was making a new password!" (which he had to run across 2x smashing the same exact keys) well anywho you should try google thats a good start. Since you want to change the password this will give you a good chance to learn about live Cd's SAM files rainbow tables..your trying to rig a jackpot with NO knowledge of how it works….learn, apply, succeed.

I remember that post you did not need to replace the harddrive, If the backdoor passwords I posted wouldn't work you should have posted back. That's an AMI hd password protect program.Very easy to bypass. Nice job on getting your CP's back.

NO your just missing the boot files, Don't run a recovery. I send you a link tomm. for boot files.

korg's Avatar

the actual message would be NTDLR is missing, press any key to restart. The boot.ini got fucked. That's easy to fix.

ghost's Avatar

Thats amateur off-topic…ness. It can get so much worse. Trust us. I have run into threads that were so degraded that people were bashing their heads on the keyboard and posting it. (I know I've been telling this story a lot lately, but it just astounds me)

I got warned, and I'm still here.

I refused to restore my points in the most recent DB fuckup, and yet they were restored without my knowledge.

I've publicly admitted to being a troll and an intentional douchebag on at least one occasion, but no one seemed to notice.

So, trust me, I don't think using administrative functions on them is going to do much good. ;D

It seems that the admins get a kick out of a little chaos, at least from what I've observed.

Also, banning is useless. One word: Fritzo
