Using a proxy?

Hi well, I'm pretty new to hacking.. got the basics down already, havent actually tried any real hacks apart from testing them out on my own website. So i was reading some of the articles about basic web hacking found on google and just on this site and found out about using proxies. The thing is when i put a proxy in through my internet options (i use FF2) and click ok, the internet just stops working full stop. Can anyway help or give me a reason why it isnt working when i've followed multiple tutorials exactly but none have worked? thanks. :ninja:

many proxys are either VERY slow or dont work at all, just keep trying a bunch until you find one that works. Or just get Tor and it will all be done for you.
