Bad Luck with Hard Drives

I am horrible with hard drives. I posted another thread about hard drive speed. I messed up a hard drive that i knew to be working. I can't find any good information about how to repair hard drives software speaking that is. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? :(

depending on manufacturer of hard drive, you can usually download a diagnostic floppy disk that you can boot off of that will run tests on it. You can also write zeros to the drive and usually change partitions also.

Download disk from manufacturer's web site.

I know Western Digital's works well but will not work with other brands. Everyone may not agree, but I always buy Western Digital Hard Drives because I've had such good luck with them.

Thanks for the info. Used it on my hard drive. It is no good. I have resorted to eBay.
