Mac hack
Sure, Mac over Windoze any day. I have this weird fascination with NOT having the 'genuine advantage' windows offers me.
I still would never run Mac's OS.
I'm going to be buying a new laptop soon. whatever I buy, I will be installing linux on it. Right now, those steel-encased Macs are looking a lot sexier than Dell's ubuntu laptops, and I'm not going to buy anything that has ever has vista instlaled on it.
How about a group for 'Mac hardware fanbois'? I would never use the OS, but looking at the average life span of one of those things, and how beat up my PC gets, makes me really inclined to buy one for the hardware. Unless someone can show me a laptop with a better case that doesn't already have windows installed on it.

Something mac fan boys can't understand: they are supporting the corporation that is run by a person that fucked over woz, one of the most awesome people of all time.
PC != windows
Just because emachine sells PC's doesn't mean all PC's have shit hardware. For a desktop computer, I'd take a nice alien ware over a mac machine any day.
Alien ware is good for games. And we sort of do have a lack of software but when u wanna compete between who's software is more quality and yours is more like having crap on crap.
BUT ONE THING I DON'T GET WHY THE HELL EVERY WINDOWS OS ALWAYS GOTTA HAVE 10,000 DIFFERENT LEVELS BASIC, BUSINESS, AND PROFESSIONAL AND WHAT THE HELL IS ENTERPRISE
MAC OS X 1 VERSION 1 DISK 1 LEVEL HOLDS EVERYTHING
WHO'S BETTER?

why do all of you grow apples in your skulls where your brain used to be?
ok, i'll explain.
BASIC - for the basic user, afraid of the lurking 'format c:' buttons (:D), who likes most options and settings defined by the OS itself.
BUSINESS - for the business user. you know, guys who work in companies. suit & briefcase kind of people. Well, the thing that they need is a little more options (the business/enterprise kind) which make them part of a BIG network that has to be rather easily maintained, updated, and shit.
PROFESIONAL - well, thats for pros (geeky, fat, big glasses). people who know their way around, people who aren't afraid to poke, and people who like to control most things on their OS.
…..

Alienware is a brand, not a hardware platform or anything. Any computer can be good at games if you put the right stuff in it. Apple is GAY, ok? The only people that I know who use Macs are gay art designers and girls (it's ok for girls to use Macs).
And you're getting fleeced with Mac. And if you do choose to purchase a commerical OS, at least with Windows you get a wide choice, so you don't buy crap you don't need. Why would a company, for example, want to roll out fancy media centre, flashy crap? They need something that just works, and is cheap, and will actually increase productivity. So then they buy Enterprise edition.
Also, Vista was the killing blow to the Windows franchise, so far as technically minded people and businesses are concerned.
And I can end this whole debate with two words:
right click

how bout that?
your words are useless
why dont you have an intelligent argument and actually elaborate on why you think this
then people might not flame you as much
although that is unlikely:)
macs are good for making people look gay, and that's about it. Linux is just awesome, I love the open source philosophy. And Windows is great if you just want to be a general consumer, and want an easy computing experience without too much fiddling around in a console lol.
Although, linux is becoming more accessible these days, you can even play games made for windows on it using cedega
oh thats bs.
just outta curiousity have you ever been on a mac?
tbh macs arnt really for ppl in the "hacking" community. but for your average joe user who needs a gui and pritty animations to be able to do anything macs are great fun but for the more experienced " hackers" linux is better cause well most distros dont really focus on pritty gui's
but you macs are great fun and look cool thats bout it really, for programing and playing games LOL your kiddin but for other things i dont see wats wrong with it

You've obviously never properly used a mac in your life. There's TONS of features. For every other-application there is a equal and neutral mac-application.
Lack of free software? Most applications pre-installed on a Windows-Based machine are 30-day-trial based. Bloaty GUI? At least it can run it without crashing. 'Depenence' on corporation? No idea wtf that is.
BTW, people, ever heard of VMware? Running Windows/Nix/BSD applications in UNITY with Mac. Hell, I have CS:S in the dock on my other Mac. Know what's awesome? It's like running windows, but faster.
There's only ONE thing that a regular Windows computer can do better than a Mac… LAG.

Writing all caps just makes you seem like an idiot. Which you are. Macs are great for the average user. But you see 85.1% (w3schools.com) of users on the net are booting Windows, compared with the 4% booting Mac. So as far as "SECURING THAT PIECE OF SHIT IN YOUR ROOM CALLED A PC" is exactly what we do on purpose. By learning the ins and outs of the OS that most people use, gives us a HUGE advantage towards security, breaking in and keeping people out.
since you're not talking about windows we'll talk about linux then:

People who talk about stuff they know nothing about seem like idiots. Like you. So maybe do some research before you go flaming about in forums next time?
Okay, lets play the quote game, asshole.

Actually, I have, on many occasions.
There's TONS of features. For every other-application there is a equal and neutral mac-application.
Who cares.

I wasn't referring to pre-installed applications, nor was I talking about windows. You're an idiot.
Bloaty GUI? At least it can run it without crashing.
Once again, you forget I'm not talking about windows. Great postulate by the way, we haven't heard that thousands of times before.
Depenence' on corporation? No idea wtf that is.
It means you depend on Apple for all of your updates, software, and support.
BTW, people, ever heard of VMware? Running Windows/Nix/BSD applications in UNITY with Mac. Hell, I have CS:S in the dock on my other Mac. Know what's awesome? It's like running windows, but faster.
Yeah, boy, running things completely from memory sure is fast…
There's only ONE thing a mac that a regular Windows computer can do better than a Mac… LAG.
"You've obviously never used a windows machine properly in your life"
lol, lesserlightsofheaven, when I said the 'never in your life line', I was referring to kirk_halo1994, when he said that Macs have nothing to exploit.
You referring to Windows or not, I listed some pros of using Mac versus another Operating System (not just Windows). I just used it as a post-fuel, because you don't see many Nix/Mac rather than Windows/Mac. I apologize that I posted before reading the entire conversation. I was just basing my input based on some few posts within the topic.
All I have to say is:

You mean the Intel ones, the same ones that Macs finally realized were better and switched to?
All those who accuse Linux of a shitty GUI, It's called Byril.
Chris1022, You dont know shit about Linux. STFU. The only thing your Macs have ever and will ever is producing videos for your gay porn.
As for the other Apple products, http://www.nickscomputing.com/forum/index.php?topic=107.msg889#new

Hit me up with one reason to justify that. I would say since i have the source code to everything running on all of my machines at the moment, and since you have the source to…… wait… nothing.
I know more. Shut The Fuck Up.

What is this differentiation between nix and bsd… given that nix is representing nx, ie anything even remotely unix based… in what way is bsd not unix based?
While we're ranting about os's, i love the way BSD makes you sound leet or something. It's not hard.
idiots. :D
I personally think mac is pretty cool. If i was going to put OS's in order I would go like: 1.LINUX 2.MAC 3.WINDOWS
Now let me explain.
Linux is great if you are a power user and want to get into hacking. Big and helpful open source community. Cool features, looks nice, many different distros for different kind of users. One thing it lacks is compatibility.
This is why I like mac. It has compatibility with games and OSX has a unix foundation. It has a clean crisp feeling to the os and has some great features for everyday users. Cons= Different hardware than other computers. If you are looking not to spend very much money on a computer, you are SOL because macs don't focus on low end computers because it is hard to compete with dell and other companies making a desktop for $300. Their open souce community is very weak unless I'm blind. + Computer maintenance is a lot more spendy because macs are bastards and have to go straight to them! But hell lets face it, a mac can run windows better than an actual pc can run windows. :D
Windows= I'm sad to admit I use windows right now. I also have a linux machine but it's an older pc, but does get used occasionally because it is less of a headache a lot of the time. I like windows, because it's the first os I used like everyone else and it's compatible with everything.
So to sum all that bs up… Linux ftw!
Holy Fuck don't know where to start. Don't rag on chris it's really nice retards can get online. I'm sure he found his MAC on the side of the road when someone shitcanned it. Let him live his dream that macs rule.

An OS cannot help you with hacking there is no advantage in using linux or windows. It's what you feel comfortable with.Installing linux doesn't give you magic powers.
For the people who shit on windows,.. Learn the ins and outs, the tweaks, And the hidden features!
For all you windows haters learn how to use it you will change your mind. You don't need to run it as installed!
Hack me on your mac….. OH WAIT you don't know how to run apps> But you have trojansQ LULZ>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Seriously, I need access to your network for 2 seconds, and within a month it will be completely useless to you. Just disable outgoing packets to genuine advantage servers.
Break into anything on your windoze machine. Oh wait, Microsoft's WGA servers are down. So I guess you can't even log in. Oh well, sucks for you. Don't you love all of Microsoft's "features"?
Oh, and I have perpetual, FREE user support from a community of friendly linux developers. you have a corporate giant that, in the end, will have you buy a $400 upgrade that makes you computer run slower and forces you to buy new hardware you really don't need. It's called vista. hope you're having fun in 2 years with absolutely no support.
Sure, linux doesn't give you any advantage. Except that your CPU cycles and bandwidth are controlled by THE USER, not hidden M$ "features" designed to limit the user. Really, the point of the OS is to provide a base on which to run applications. Nothing more or less.
So, being familiar with the environment you will be attacking 70% of the time isn't an advantage? Compiling code on the platform that it will be running on when you use it as a backdoor isn't an advantage? All the thousands of open source programs and scripts that are super useful (and, more important, modifiable) aren't advantages? A built in SSH client, increased security, flexibility and the an open license aren't advantages for hardware hackers? When is the last time someone installed windows on the ipod or some other consumer electronic? and understanding how the OS that the routers on the network you are attack work isn't an advantage?
Does an operating system give you some mystical power? No. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't give you an advantage.
BTW: applications built for linux are generally "just better" than windows apps. Why? A few reasons. First, I know what they're fucking doing. I know what's happening to my dad. Second, I can edit it whenever I to. Third, no odd hacks that fuck up the entire program on some hardware. Third, I don't have to buy an expensive API just to edit code. Fourth, GNU Scheme compiler > windows Scheme compiler. And scheme is a fucking kick ass language.
Not to mention I just have ethical problems with a company that fucks over public school systems, which affects thousands of poor children, just because their CEO is a greedy son of a bitch who can't pull his down dick out of his ass long enough to see that there are some things in the world more important than profit, like making sure that huge school districts don't go bankrupt when they haven't even been proven to do anything wrong.

Easy, the name. =]
Well, if you go into applications I guess they are similar, the reason I put BSD in a whole other slash is because it has more dramatic effect if there's 3 categories. BSD being the first one that popped in.

XP on a PSP.
Just remember,
"Operating systems do not control hackers, hackers control operating systems"-Me
Linux>Mac>Windows
That being said, I use Windows a lot, and, although I don't like many of its "features" (like crashing one of my apps at least every f*ing half hour) (and its XP 2003!) and the $hit Micro$haft comes out with (Vista!?! And no support AT ALL for XP after 2008!), I do like many things about it. Mostly, the compatability I think. I don't care too much for its memory-intense gui. I actually have to use the classic view with all animations/features, etc shut off on my other computer, which runs DamnSmallLinux and Xubuntu Linux faster than XP on my main machine (AMD64 3.2GHz, 1GB DDR).
I absolutely LOATHE the Win Registry, that piece of crap must be the work of the AntiChrist… mmm, I see a joke there, but no elaboration :p
I like Macs because they look very nice, run smoothly, and, especially, the STABILITY. They are rock-solid, and, although the hardware and a lot of the software is proprietary, it is generally of good quality. Also, now with the Intel cores, they are FAST and you can run other OSs on them. I am buying a Macbook soon, and will have OSX, Debian (or FC6), and XP Pro Performace (Crack with all the $hitware taken out :p)
Linux just freakin pwnz because it is totally open to end-user modification. Got a problem? Great community! Also, its FREE! I don't know about you guys, but I like my money! So, what I guess I have to say is, although each OS has its quirks, use LOGIC, man!
K, I'm gonna finish up cuz I had to leave immediately after that last line…
To each his own, but some systems definitely have advantages over others. Just pick what's right for you. For me, that means triple-booting on Apple hardware (which is pretty good, despite the incompatability, etc.)
That's all I have to say about that… –F.Gump :p
