WarpedCStrike - Half-Life Notifier
Hey people, Was just looking for a small project to work on in Java. I have a new project I am starting up here possibly today, so this project cant be to big. If you have some type of application that you would like built, preferably in Java, no applets! And try not to give me something that has been done a million times before, such as a port scanner or something. I am up to sugestions, although the first reply will probally be the project I end up doing. Please be descriptive, although I will probally add onto your idea I still would like to know what you want out of it. Expect it to have a GUI, if you prefer a console based application I will be willing to do that also… I am just now getting started back up in Java, I have been lazy around Java for a little while, just looking for a small project to start getting warmed back up in. Hope to get some good ideas!

I would have to learn how all that shit works, I dont even have steam installed any more. and there are no scripts that I know of that are like this, but there are web scripts all over the place that are like this. I was looking for something a little more unique, as far as I can tell most of these sites that have server stats and what not work off other sites. I could build something that works off another site but you would probally be banned from that site within a week. lol
Plus to add onto that, people that usually have stats for there servers are using Psychostats or something. I am sure that you can do it, but I would have to find the CS API and shit to get any where. I dont like, I will look around. If someone can come up with a better idea, I will probally take that idea. I will be investigating this idea though…
Never mind all that, I figured out a little bit of stuff about it, I will see what I can do.
Make a program that creates 2 ducks with artifical intelligence, one male and one female, but make it so the hornier the male gets the smaller his penis gets, so when he goes to mate with the female, all it will do is like look like it's running into a wall and than start freaking out. Just something to do.. you don't HAVE to do it, but who wouldn't want to do this?:ninja:
Alright Grindoride, I have decided to take up your idea, think it will be kinda fun. Just a couple of questions….
Do you really want this to be like the GMail notifier, where it sits in the system stay and pops up and shows information and what not. I will for sure create a GUI that updates with user information such as… Server Name, Server Type, Operating System, Players, Frags, etc.. I am not sure about this System tray stuff and it notifying you about stuff, but I will see what I can do. Picture will follow soon of what this will look light when completed.
Here is a before picture of what it will kinda look like when finished. This preview was built in netbeans - I aint that good with netbeans so some things will look a little weird, plus this will have a different looking look and feel. Let me know how you feel about it, the one for this program will be created by hand and will look better then this peicer.
Unfortunetly, the System tray icon and a notifier that pops up and mimimizing to the system tray doesnt look to good at the momeny. Alright I have some good news and bad news.
Good News: I have found a way to minimize Java applications to the system tray and have little popup menus that notify you of stuff, so I will be using this.
Bad News: This guy just talked to me while I was reading up on JDIC and told me this project is a go, I will be working on this application for the rest of tonight, but I have to start up on this web dev project tomorow. I will take time to work on this while I am taking breaks from this CMS but it might take a "little" longer then what is expected. But I am sure you will enjoy it eaither way.
Just a little update, I managed to figure out JDIC and am now able to use the system tray! WOOT! so now windows can be minimized down to the system try and i have have them pop up little windows that show who joined and shit. The little information you see over it right now is just a tooltip, will show what ip:port your connected to / server name / players out of max players
here it is with the system icon, dont mind the crappy icon im using now, I am working on a good one ;P

I managed to find this time to be some free time :) Ran into some difficulties with this project I am working on and cant go on unless I get some info from the people so I decided to come back to this project and work on it for the rest of tonight.
Here are a couple new features… Remember the actual application can be fully minimized to the system tray, I just have it open cause i like it open :).
This image shows the tray menu, you can right click on its icon and this menu will pop up, just like any other tray icon you see.
This image shows what you can exect to see when someone joins the server. The little notifier will popup and give you some information. Probally add something to where you can click on it and it will ask you if you want to join the server etc.. Expect more info to go in here to…
expect more then you see, this application will probally get a small recode once finished for tidyness and comments when it is released. And dont forget its not finished, still learning how JDIC works and what its features are.
Alright people, the time has come. Recoding starts now. I need an official name for this application. The sooner I get the application name the sooner I get started on the recoding and release of this application. If i come up with any ideas i will post them. Just anyone that has an idea for this application let me know - i dont care who you are just post.
What the application does..
Half Life Game Server Information / Player / Map notifier Requests server infromation from a server every so often on a specified interval ranging from 5 seconds - 10 seconds - 20 seconds - 30 seconds - etc..
If the information has changed it will bring up a bubble alert above the system tray notifying the user who has joined if a new player has joined and will show the new map if the map has changed.
Has options to join the server, a button you can click that opens the Half Life game and connects to the server you have the notifier set to.
Has a window that shows all its information. While minimized you can right click and bring up a menu that allows you to do one of the following. Exit the program Start the notifier Stop the notifier Refresh the notifier
In the main window you can stop / start the notifier and refresh the notifier manually.
So any names that just pop into your mind - dont care what they are, just post your idea. Thanks!

Alright, just a little update. I decided to change a couple things around to. I have been really busy lately so I have not been able to spend much time on this project. But here is the first window you will be presented with when running this application.
Just so you know the reason it has started all over is because this is going to be the true version 1. all the other images you have seen so far are examples and were built for ideas and comments. images you see from here on out will be true images of version 1 unless otherwise stated.
Also, I do plan on working on it tomorow also, probaly all day. I have to think out a couple things for this other project I am doing so I will do it while working on this project.
300 Line Class - Tools: TextPad Approximate time: 2 hours
It allows you to add / delete servers and save the server list. The list will automatically be saved once you start up the notifier. Confirmation dialog for removing elements of the server list. automatically loads the list on startup. Still not completed but I have a major headache and am going to bed. Only a couple more things I need to add to this window for it to be finished.
