.NET or JAVA

Hello, I've been thinking about these two main environments .NET and Java and which is better and i'm actually confused because they are both VERY similar in programming structure as in C#, Java ..

so what do you think is better .exe (windows applications) and .aspx pages or .jar applications and applets ?

I would like to hear your thoughts on this

Thanks.

Well, it depends on taste and what you're going to use it for.

Personally, I really only have experience of exe's and php scripting, so I can't really compare it to Java.

well Java is almost similar to C# .. so i don't think its a matter of taste although C# seems the better choice for developing windows apps not for online use (personally i hate .aspx websites)

On the other hand Java seems better for online use when it comes to applets.

but thats only my opinion what do you guys think !

It is all about preference and portability.

Whichever you like using more is important. If you aren't comfortable with a language for any reason don't use it unless you are dependent upon it.

You should also consider who is going to be running your applications. A .net application is native in windows but not Linux. It is possible to run it, but its a hack job. But I will say the development of MONO has come very far, so soon it will not matter as much.

Java will run natively on Linux and Windows based operating systems and be portable between the two with the right coding.

With web coding there is not much difference really. Browsers are becoming a lot more universal and you really only need worry if you plan on using any activeX.

There is my opinion on the matter.

i will say that if u had to become a good programmer go for JAVA because it is platform independent so no problem with LINUX or WINDOWS. then in JAVA u have to type everything from class name to the end whereas in .NET lot of things are just drag and drop. even in .NET when we just put a '.' after any variable all the functions are shown that helps BUT it takes off the main thing of remembering the functions which is an important thing.

so in my opinion a someone really wants to become a good programmer go for JAVA…:p

Oh yeaaaaah, go for Java. Sure.

What can I say, where do you want to flow? If you want work in the IT business, learn both, and C#. If you want to become a clever hacker (clacker, harr), go for C(++), Perl and Python. If you know PHP, you can fly straight through Perl, so it's kind of a bonus objective. Or something.

Anyhow, I greatly dislike both Java and dot-fucking-NET. I wish I could spike their stiff, rigor mortis bodies to a cross and set them on fire whilst laughing and joking about the American Election.
