i was surching the forums and i came accross this http://www.hellboundhackers.org/forum/mobile_phones-42-10357_0.html some one was asking if you could write a program that would screw with someones phone using an sms or somthing simalar and i have often thought somthing simalar but with printers. i am wondering if anyone has an idea on how ide go about creating a program that i could send to the printer through the act of printing or somthing simalar that would screw with it? printers have to proccess the information sent to them so is there a way i could exploit this so that it effects the printer in some way? this may be imposible and a stupid idea but if its not then any ideas and help would be great. i do almost all my programing in C++ so ide prefure to use it if at all posible but any code and ideas are welcome. thanks neco

Everyone (I know I did) will come in here thinking 'Wow a printer virus? This guy really is going to need help' but when they see the contents they'll just probably post a flame or two and leave.

This thread sucks.

A printer virus isn't as far fetched as it seems though, modern printers run some very advanced software, such as http servers, email capabilities, etc.

Although I haven't got much experience with printer viruses, lots of networked printers can be 'exploited', and often administrators forget to set/change the default password.

And on a more basic and primitive level, you could do a 'black fax', just print out a page full of black. Back in the olden days, people used to do this as a prank, and fax their enemies tons of black pages :P

lol, dude. I did it once when i was working at a store. My main defense is because the job was dead boring.

You could mess with the printer's drivers… :ninja:

Modern Day Multifunction Printers run their own Operating System. It is possible to write a Virus to screw with this but you would need to know the executable structure of the OS as well as perhaps a little back end of it to find the exploitable holes.

Thats easy, all they did was change the printer from unicode to whatever other one it is now. (or was). but yes you could do this and yea its been done.
