Software Freedom Day....

well today is software freedom day (cue fireworks) but some have went ahead for FOSS advocacy to the public. I have been doing my part in advocating in my college for a month, except with very little results( advocacy, even if laced with foss apps distribution, takes quite a while)

I have several plans for next years':

a) break into people's houses and install foss apps and linux on their pcs. b) throw garbage at Microsoft's offices c) install linux on demo pcs and kiosks d) start random public lectures on the virtues of foss and why paying for proprietary software is not worth it. e) organize install fests h) help assist people interested in migrating i) burn copies of proprietary software in public j) trash sites running windows

well that's some of my plans. I probably won't do some of the more radical stuff (these stuff just kinda popped out of my brain)

that's mine. what do you guys have in mind

wow…interesting :/

windows is just another OS, I don't think the general public really cares if their software is open source, that just want it to work and be compatible. Not that linux isn't either of those things.

You can't force anyone to uninstall Windows! Remember that not all of computer users are hackers, there are people interest entertainment, websites design, listening to music, watching movies, or even media works, like montage softwares, sound editing, composing, studios, media centers, etc…

Yeah dude, fuck off.

You're not big. You're not clever.

Linux is only worthwhile if you know how to use it. I love Windows. I like a few Linux distro's.

you're not leet for loving linux.

I love the way every one slates Microsoft and Window's, when really they made the whole industry of which we love.

@Spyware the cartoons are great made me chuckle.

Meh, I use windows and I have no problem with it. I don't give a shit about your windows flaming.

Great tools indeed are on windows.

what youre planning will do more harm than good to the FOSS community. think about it, people starting hearing about "a guy breaking into your house and deleting all your files, the installing linux". that will associate linux with B&E. the only way you can help the FOSS community grow is to teach people about its advantages, especially at a time when M$ is distributing buggy OS's(vista anyone?) and buggy program releases(vista's MSN plus live and more).

actually, i won't. i'll just suggest them to either dual-boot or using virtualization software like VMWare…I use Windows less often from Linux, as I use it to play games.Everyday people like my dad can benefit more from FOSS than buying pirate copies of Windows and Office. sorry you all have to read it. Sometimes i tend to get carried out with what ever comes out in my brain..

maybe i'll try a softer approach, starting with Firefox,Thunderbird , Open Office, basically FOSS apps for Windows to the average user. I started out this way since a few months back and I'm completely won over the cause.

I do have several fave tools in Windows such as Cain&Abel, PuTTY, Angry IP Scanner, etc.

I tend to get radical when I believe in something. My friends in the FOSS society actually told me to calm down since I'm just 17.

so do anyone have ideas for next years' ? I'm thinking of making hats.
