MySpace
Question: How does the funny letters that you then have to type out when creating a new MySpace account help deter from abuse and spam? Also, I was recently trying to create a new account and even though all my info was good and kosher, they are not accepting me. I would ask this to someone with something to do with MySpace, but I'm starting to get the feeling this is stemming from certain possible things I may have done with a previous account. Is it possible for them to find my IP address, so that now they know not to accept my IP? My other accounts I can log into fine, but cannot create a new one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
the "funny letters" you type deter bots, theoretically a program/script won't be able to create a bunch of accounts for advertising or whatever because it can't read the text from the image. and by going to their site they already have your ip address unless you're using a proxy, and even then it depends on the proxy (transparent/anonymous). my guess is you're trying to sign up for a second account on the same email address. don't they give you an error message saying what's wrong?

the funny letters stop bots (automated programs) that automatically fill the form out, as its incredibly hard to create a bot that can get the letters. In response to you filling out a new one, i would try using a proxy proxyelite.net if you dont already have it get firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ and configure it to go through the proxy. btw it is not only possible to get your ip when you visit a site it is quite easy, your IP will have been recorded on hbh.
can you say what those "certain possible things" were :p also im not sure but myspace may limit the number of accounts a single ip can register.
if it still dosnt work post the error message you get, and if you need help configuring a proxy pm me,
