Has anyone seen it? I'm watching it right now, and i have to say so far this is the best "hackers movie" i've ever seen. How come no one is talking about it?

There's a part where they shutdown the cellphone network, and the hacker kid takes a nokia 9500comunicator and says "the network is down but i can still log into the old comsats" "hackers do it all the time".

is that fantasy?..

OffTopic:i've been searching for a while if there's anyway we can contact satelites, you know like telneting them or aren't they connected to the internet?

any of you seen transformers?

what a pile of hacking bullshit.

  • signal strength
  • hackers make massive dial up noises come through headsets when they hack into the gouvernment.
  • gouvernment keeps encyrpted logs that not even they can decode and need to seek help of some fat middle aged retard who watches cartoons..

enough said. dont go see transformers to be amazed by the hacking realism.

Mr_Cheese, when has anyone ever gone to the cinema expecting to see what hacking is really like…

It would make a crap film, some teenagers in their bedrooms trawling through pages and pages of ASM

lol true, but you can have a balance. theres ways to make it realistic and entertaining.

if your going to have any subject in your film, you want to make sure you make it accurate otherwise it may just be a cartoon.

Mr_Cheese - do you think film makers give a shit about realism when there is profit to consider?

Phones connect to the satelites and identify with the IMEI number, research about that and see if you can "hack" it or whatever.

i haven't seen transformers but my guess is it has some robot catching someone falling from a building or something like that that happens all the time, x-man, spiderman, superman all the man's movies.. lol and a bunch of others. matrix.. like if falling on arms at 60mph instead of ground would stop them from dieing

still it's ok, like spaceship sound effects, (vacuum in space there is some sound but it doesn't travel far enough to be heard)

so ppl are acustumed to see hackers as cool kids with a graphical theme for emails and 3d hex editors.. lol

that's what i liked about die hard4. it still wasn't real but it tried a little harder to be..

All of the hacking scenes in Die Hard 4 were totally unrealistic. Big colourful GUIs used for hacking? hmm okay. Hacking into the phone company/satellite/whatever with a phone?? yeah alright. What was with the PDAs too? In nearly every hacking scene you'd see one above the keyboard or something. What the hell? Then there were the made up words, like Firesale. This is basically Hollywoods representation of hackers. People with Star Wars toys.

As an action movie, it was ok. But all the hacking stuff was just awful. You wanna see a good hacker movie go watch Sneakers. Best hacker movie IMO.

i think the reason they don't make it realistic is because 1] For the most part it would be boring and too hard to follow, and 2] The government don't want kids to learn hacking from a movie lol

haha, I saw the die hard one.

I loved how we were supposed to believe the guy who does the Macintosh commercials is a hacker. EVERYONE knows mac users can't hack.

;)

Real Hacking in a movie is like seeing pink flying unicorns, It just wont happen. Look at the movie "Hackers" i haven't hacked a website trying to stay legal for now but im 100% sure that when you hack a database that you don't fly thought a "city" of bright pillars and search for information on these pillars of beautiful 1995 graphic effects. :D but it was at least entertaining and thats what the general public wants is entertaining not realistic.
