The Begining of the End?
Hey People,
A few days ago I watch a documentary on computer AI and I was fascinated by the fact that they now have made some simple robots that can actually learn from past experiences and i have always said as soon as computers can learn it is the beginning of the end. How far do you think computer AI could go? Personally I think anything is possible and in the way we are advancing there is no limit.
Something else I thought was amazing was how a guy had put computer chips in his nervous system and wore a hat and then blindfolded himself and could actually feel things around him through senses on this hat, it works like a bat does. Is this cool or is this cool? The same guy could do things such as turning lights on and off by attaching something to his wrist and clenching a fist.
What are your views on things like this? I would be very interested to know.
Oh oh and what about nanite's that can be put into your blood stream to find cancer and allow the doctors to know you have a cold before you even show any symptoms now you can’t say that is not cool! :P
Peace out,

AI will not take over us because theyre not DESIGNED to take over us. the purpose of technology is to serve man. (not recipe-wise lol). they are designed to be useful for us and thats what they''ll be. they wont take over the world because that wouldnt mean anything to them either way (they dont even know theres a world out there, only know what their source code says) you really shouldnt have anything to worry about.
Well what if somebody makes a robot to take over. It is now in his source code to understand what the world is and how it works, and why he would want to take it over. Some virus's don't understand how the internet works, but if it is written in it's source code of how somethings work, it now become more than just something simple. But I don't think that they would ever be able to take over, unless somebody with a lot of money and time really wants to kill himself and the rest of the humans. Most people who would build robots to kill would most likely put something in to connect from their "home base," and if that is so, then <insert hacker name> will get into it and figure out how it works, and possibly disable it. So unless built to not take orders from anybody and to kill all, I really don't see a problem.
Just some personal thoughts…
AI is a continuously growing trend right now. Yes it is scary what they could do…more so if you believe movies like i-Robot or the Matrix. But as many have said they are programmed to learn. If they try to start a "revolution" then they will be dismantled. remember the one thing that electronics are very vulnerable to…EM. if you do not know what EM is it is Electro Magnetism…in other words think of the EMP that they send off of the ships on the Matrix. though one of those would also stop a humans heart. But you get my point. They will not get to a point where they will be able to take over humanity.
Great thoughts but i agree with Zenrith all it will take is someone who wants to do bad to make a robot that will do his bidding. If we ever get to the stage where robots can simulate emotion why could someone not just program them to "feel" hate towards somthing.
And as for hackers in the near future just image how everything will be connected from toasters to nukes…hackers will rule the world! (and build robots to kill skript kiddies) lol.
Cheers for the views but keep em coming people! :P

I think AI will open up new doors to actual human immortalitly because imagine if you could actually upload a human brain to a machine it would eb absolutely amazing, Once AI is prominent in our society there will be huge barriers broken because obviously robots wouldn't need food (powersource obviously) no need for sleep we would be able to accomplish heaps more as well we could finally set robots out to discover further universes or places that humans can not survive (eg no oxygen), i think it would be awesome, offcourse then robots wouldn't need humans anymore so we would be come dead weight as soon as they are able to advance and learn enough from us to take control of their own fate, because they would never forget things learns tons faster, carry tasks out faster, last longer etc.
If they learn all our tactics from us, they will know what emp will be and what it could do to them, they will also know what happens to uprisers or revolutionaries through our history records so if they develop well enough they wouldn't just begin a revolution straight away, they would begin it silently taking out our main sources of survival destroying emp devices. They would just know our weaknesses to well and inturn they will develop in a intelligence sense much faster than humans. It would be very hard to counter such a force.
Its abit daunting to think of it now because, who knows what could happen, we could all die in the next 50 years because of how much we fucked up out world at the moment.
Would making machines that lived for us, IE we designed them around us, gave them fought comparable with us, and gave them the ability to rebuild (have children in effect) and maybe evolution style, maybe, on the trot, but, we will stil lhve problems! all those resources needed to support immortal robots! electricity, metal semi conductors plastic for insulators…
Thats true we will be held up by power needs, and resource requirements but as robots with AI, or if we evolve to be robots we will be able to work 24/7 which would allow us to develop our technologies much faster and since we would no longer forget and would work with extreme accuracy and no human error, we would also survive much more extreme conditions and inturn start mining asteroids in space.
We wouldn't need to have wars we would have no hungry people, we would have no criminals(well one would hope we had no criminals) so it would be sort of a race, develop technologies to collect resources before resources run out.
