My world...
Through expediance of my given daily duties today, I found myself in search of a place to sit and clear my mind. After riding around for a great deal of time, I was unable to find a place that truely fit. Everywhere I went, I found the abhorrent coninuation of modern residential development…I would not feel so anguished, but not a single one of the developing districts were being designed for average people like myself. The people who kill themselves in blue collar jobs, and at this very moment (ink-to-paper), I am surrounded by homes built for luxury…most of which are no cheaper than $250,000. As I look upon the modern-day castles for the socialites, I glance upon my bretheren…physically tearing themselves apart. I have seen them before, those who live day to day on the edge of indentured servitude. They populate the trailer parks, apartment complexes, and residential "slums" that are avoided by many. They go home everyday just as the the elite do, but see their children who are subject to a public school system that could care less about their futures. Their children are indoctrinated into the world with a spoon-full of knowledge, only to stare into the bleakness of their own future as it was designated by the past that still looms over their heads.
Oh yes, there are "programs" out there that help 'less-fortunate' individuals further their education…and they do help, but only the 'fortunate' one's who not only know about them, but are lucky enough to be selected. The most disturbing fact is that these programs had to be created in the first place. The world has done the most horrible thing imaginable and most people do not even realize it…it has put a price-tag on knowledge. Most people spend more on four-years of college education than they do on their first homes….there are more bookstores than libraries…television stations no longer broadcast free educational programs unless you "subscribe" to them.
Self-centeredness, greed, and ignorance run the world. The fact that my state cannot run (much-less reinvent) it's own public school system says enough…but "downtown sure does look nice and our tourism has certainly reached a paramount, hasn't it?" Thank you…thank you for worrying more about what is being fed to our stomachs more than the malnorishments of our minds…for increasing the student-teacher ratio by shutting down school districts to save what little money is being put into the system…and pat yourselves on the back for keeping the emerging voter populi ignorant to your deeds and the deeds of your predecessors.
Goodluck in 2008….
