Martial Arts

I wanted to know how many other people have been doing martial arts and for how long. Where I train any computer "nerd" is found there.

I have been training since I was 5 years old. So for right now its 12 years. Ive become an expert in weapons fighting but i love martial arts as a whole along with its philosophy.

Heres some videos i thought i would share of myself just doing some things for my 3rd degree black belt test.:

the first one looks repetitive, and when you put it between you legs i have this wincing pain in my head while considering do you actually have any balls the second link is broken

i fixed the links.. but the repetiveness is only showing technique. i know more crap but this was the only video i have.

and im not hitting my balls. im hitting at my knee level so it wraps around my knees. my balls are completely intact

I've been in Martial Arts since Puerto Rico when i was five, thats 9 years now, i kept moving, so i had to keep starting over. i just got my 1st degree this summer, but dislocated my knee in the process, so i didn't get the full experience. I love everything about it though especially the history.

I've been doing poi for about a year and a half now. I suppose that was originally a form of training for martial arts, your nunchuku practice reminded me of it, especially the wraps, an you did a sort of half weave… Also, I have taught myself iado on and off for the past 4 years or so, and I have two bokkens…which I LOVVVEEEE.

Ive never moved town except when i was six i moved from manchester too brisbane australia but when i moved out here and i started judo when i was 8. Now 5 years later im happy with a blue belt. But i like judo because of it is not actually punching and kicking it is quite literaqlly throwing somebody. Judo ahs saved my arse from getting kicked more than once and i love it. What are the hackers favourite martial art? SANTA

I have been taking normal Karate for 10 years, since I was three and…. Jujitsu - 5 Years Aikido - 3 Years Judo - 6 Years Iaido (Katana) - 5 Years Kendo - 5 Years (This is basically Iaido, except you were armor and use bamboo swords)

And I definately agree…Fencing is a little wimpy…just in my opinion…but I tried it once and they totally flipped out when this guy went after me with no rapier, and I kicked he sword out of his hand, then broke a few toes I am kinda paranoid, so this was by an accident

Aikido - 2 years Kendo (no Iaido in my area, unfortuantely) - 4 years Shotokan Karate - 7 years Weapons training (Handguns, Riflery, SMG, Knifes) - Since I was a kid

In my opinion, every hacker should pursue not only strength of mind, but strength of body as well. A hacker who lacks the self-esteem to become confident in one's self will never realize their full potential.

i just got my red belt in tae kwon do. i know a guy who does ninjitsu. it's awesome. me and a friend are filming a series called "richo's quest to become a death ninja", we're basically going around and test driving all the different arts. when they're all done i'll host them somewhere.

so far my fave has been kendo.

i did chun-ka-do(led by chuck norris lol no lie i even met him when i was a baby, don't care if you don't believe me) and i was in it for about 5-6 years. I made 1st degree black belt when i was 11 but then it kinda bored me so i started playing football.

coughbullshitcough Lol its soo funny hereing people say im 8 years old and im a black belt. My friend said that to me so we started fighting for fun and he satarted doing all this shit from the movies that wasnt effective. Then 20 seconds later and two rounds of ogoshi (really simple throw) and he was on the ground.

Ehemmm. Or not :/

Fencing is martial arts in fast motion.

-Foil (gets really intense 15 or so secs into 3rd min :P) -Epee (not so hardcore) -Saber

For anyone thats never held a foil in their life, let me tell you how damn hard it is to swing those things around with such great precision. You can't see whats going on in the videos cause its so fast, but those guys controll everything their doing… in a few seconds they manage to parry, evade, and lunge at the opponent… Its like theyre fencing at bullet time (matrix).

Amen to BluMoose, apart from the epee part. I have a friend who is in the British squad for epee. An yes it is a v. intense sport

I'm more of a foil fencer myself, not too fond of epee :p But agreed, it is pretty intense =]

Cool, you know any fencers from Guernsey?

ghost's Avatar

I am shit at fighting :P. Never joined any club or something. I'm fast though, too bad I have no condition at all :X

If I ever come across a situation where I need to fight, I just grab a piece of wood and start slamming people on their heads/stomach.

ghost's Avatar

Afraid I've never heard of Guernsey till now :/

That where you're from or sumfing?

Ac1d wrote: Fencing isnt Wimpy, fencing combines stamina , focus and agility all into 1 sport , i've fenced many times , and only once have i come across an IDIOT that decides to Whip me with his foil. [i still have the bruise today] so i had to do what i needed to.

You can technically 'whip' the opponent with you foil, its a technique a lot of professionals use :P

What you do is whipe the foil as hard as you can over the opponents shoulder. There are several very painfull nerves to hit here that can almost completely numb your arm. In addition, the tip of the foil scores a legal hit on the opponents back ;)

The usmc teaches martial arts. MCMAP to be exact. It's not as flowing as some of the other styles that i've seen… but it's pretty to the point and efficent.
