It depends what type of hashs they are, but Cain and Able works pretty well.

l0phcrack, rainbowcrack, deMD5, etc…

JTR is amazing once you familiarize yourself with it, and get good dictionary files for cracking. You also have to know what kind of hash you're cracking; which is an indispensable criteria that must be met, so that you use the right methods.

for MD5 (un-salted) you can use Jake's MD5 bot on AIM(md5library), or milw0rm.com for online MD5 cracking. john the ripper gives me trouble, so i dont use it.
