I have a horrible cpu- can you beat it?

Ok, this is th second time I am writting this because last time I wrote it, it shut off. (Exploder) SO, Im re-typing. So, I am running on a Windows XP fusion between a randomly restarting cpu and a cpu which never turns on.Soooo. To turn it on, you need to turn it on, off, on and it starts loading. It takes about 9 minutes to load or so, and when thats done, five minutes worth of pop ups come up. Thing for un deletable programs on the cpu (which are not on the start up menu) and you have to close them all. Then you immediatley open the programs you will use this time the cpu is turned on- or else no program will open. Now, I have found a new problem. It is randomly shutting down programs. The start menu is a world of fun. You click it and don't know what is going to happen next. You for sure wont be able to access the all programs section, and sometimes, it freezes up when you click it. The bar at the botom with all your minimized programs will usually not be clickable. No matter what you click on, it wont open anything. My cpu is popup crazy. Nothing but pop ups and crap. My cpu has slowed down insanely since it was first built. The graphics suck and the card is in the monitor and apparently cant be replaced. The sound is glitching. And worst of all- mozilla has stopped working. Mozilla will no longer go to any pages and I must rely on IE. My bro in law said in a few years it would crash and stay crashed- ut it has only been a few months. I fear my cpu apocolypse is comming very soon. If you think you can beat me- have a crappier cpu- post it here. It might make me feel better :P. (btw, I just got a pop up saying, "You have a virus that effects (and it went through every windows OS)

Sounds crazy.. Maybe you should try to format your harddrive?

sounds like you are infested with about 100 spyware softwares, 500 Trojans, 1000 Viruses and a multitude of other MalWare.

I would suggest you download AVG Antivirus http://free.grisoft.com/ and get Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en once you get these two softwares you should become pretty clean. I have recovered from this type of infestation without reformatting but the computer will never respond the same.

I would suggest you back everything that you can up then rebuild it. That is the safest bet. Make sure you do a full format though not just a quick one or re-install windows over the current install. This will make all traces go away. And stay off those porn sites!

Hi,

When you say CPU im guessing you mean the actual PC (i.e. the box .. ). It sounds to me like you have some severe and rampant spyware installed on there. Also perhaps some hardware issues with regards to having to turn it on an off to get it going, possibly disk related.

It takes about 9 minutes to load or so, and when thats done, five minutes worth of pop ups come up..

The popups are definatly software related ….. fire up in safe mode, run msconfig and kill whatever shouldnt run. It would also be a good ides to give it a full AV scan (You have got AV software??) and it certainly wouldnt hurt to run adaware (free) or something as well (http://www.lavasoftusa.com)

The graphics suck and the card is in the monitor and apparently cant be replaced.

The graphics card is not in the monitor it is in the PC, (Unless you have one of those weird all in one PC things … Ugh!!). I'm sure that the card can be replaced, the existing on may be built in to the motherboard , but that can be disabled in the BIOS and replaced with a 'proper' one. Same for the sound side things.

If I were you, I would strip the PC down, take out all the cards, RAM, Processor etc etc, use contact cleaner on it all. Check the CPU and heatsink/heatsink compound, replace as necersary. Get some good diagnostic software, PCcheck seems to work quite well - available from your favourite p2p/BT client.

Doesnt sound like anything a format and reload wouldnt fix …. but I would check out your harddisk. Check to see that if you turn on the PC and it doesnt boot, is the harddisk spinning? How far does it get when it doesnt come on??

hth,

Unreb

Simply rely on my mindset: A format or 2 a month won't hurt ;)

I know I should re format it (but not twice a month) and I probably will very VERY soon, but I might need to get a new cpu because, it is supposed to crash and stay crashed soon. I spoke with my bro in law (the person who made the cpu…. basically) and he said it should go soon.

okie dokie….

first things first. i bet my left testicle your brother did not build a cpu. he assembled a computer. the cpu is the thing with the fan on top that does all the thinking.

second, there is nothing wrong with an old PC, i do most of my tinkering on my AMD 486 running redhat linux, so there is no reason why your somputer should just die.

reformat. everything. hold F8 when it says verifying DMI pool data, then open in command prompt. format c: /s

then run windows boot disk, and start over. and stop looking up porn!

okay simple way to fix this problem. Give your brother restricted access to the PC. I am certain that he will not be able to get past some filtering methods I could lend you a hand with ;)

Second. I have been running a SERVER on an old Pentium II 400MHz, There is no problem with the CPU. The computer perhaps but the CPU is fine. Unless the fan is shit then you are in trouble. The Hard Drive will go ages before the Central Processor Unit (CPU) because the hard drive has mechanical parts while the CPU is all Electons with no moving parts.

I have been doing this for 12 years man. Trust me just let him know if he wast to do that shit just to buy his own PC because you are sick of putting up with his shit. when in doubt make a password protected login and DO NOT let him have it

Let me know if you need any further help.

lol you should have seen my old PC. It was a Gateway c.1996 with a 4 GB HDD, and it was also infested with spyware etc. then I cleaned out just recently and its still slow. I just might have to "Office Space" the crap out of it.

:P I know and the fan is shit. It keeps making noises like it's about to explode and crap. Anyways, thx for your help and I am probably reformatting it as soon as I can. (in other words, Im a lazy shit who hasn't slept in a week ;))
