Parents Vs Hacking continued

I know that Mr. Cheeses thread is full so i decided to continue it. :D

If you have any problems with parents and hacking. post here.

I REALLY want to tell my dad that I am a hacker. He is a computer guy. He has his own computer buisness. But the thing is, if i tell him he will take my computer away!

And you know the thing i hate the most. EVERY time when i tell him i know how to do something, he NEVER believes that i might be smarter than him in that(computer related). He is always going into this junk like "i went to college for this yadeyadeya" I'm just fed up. I really want to show him that im smarter than him in something, like hacking!

Any advice??

yeah seriously. my dad pisses me off sometimes. for the love of god, he thinks that changing the taskbar, erm eh…the 'appearance" to silver has corupted the operating system. wtf? and this is coming from an aeronautics engineer who lives on the damn comp at work. (GE) i mean this is engine control design for engines foe boeing and airbus, etc. you would think that he would have half a god damn clue. and he still thinks i have no clue what im doing when i tweak the startup menu via msconfig. thats probably one of the simplest things EVER. i dont see why…its like it says everything that its done in writing. he cant figure these little things out from the popups that come up??? its a very simple command program thing. sigh. and if i ever show him the command prompt things i kno…he'd probably flip out crazy.

o and btw. he thinks hackers deserve the death penalty 0_0. ok well he really means the "black hat" i guess is how you say, hackers. the one that fuck with things he would need. ya kno, the kind of guys taht do it soley to delete and fuck up files.

well anyways…thats the way HE is. its nutts some times.

Just because someone is an engineer does not mean they know computers man. I bet he uses a non-XP OS at work. for design and build I notice a lot of Solaris, Mac and some Windows stations. but again just becuase he is used to Windows 98 style does not mean he is stupid for not knowing that changing the theme is fine. Like I bet you would think that changing the orientation of wires within an electronic device was not right until you tried it and it worked. so stop slandering your parents. They are just trying to keep you out of trouble is all. Give the guy a break for not knowing as much as a computer geek.

well yeah, youve got a point there. hes really just worried im accidentally going to fuck something over, and if anything happens to these PC's were both screwed.

but he does use windows…hmm. ya kno i cant remember if its 98/2000/or xp. Its not that he doesnt know how to do it, its just that it really annoys me when i try and make this thing faster, and less congested, and he gets all pissed off because he thinks it's going to break it!!!

changing theme color doesnt REALLY do anything does it…ive got a few friends in IT college, and they told me that the winxp silver theme, and even better the traditional silver theme, was less work on the processor to rendor, as opposed to blue.

well back to–sorta my original point. im sitting looking at my taskbar, and task manager. including IE, which is the only active program, there are 62 current prosses. not even half of them are used. the biggest pain in the ass, is this mcafee SHIT on here. let me count em…theres 7 processes just from mcaffee alone. and mcaffee isnt even very good! i cleaned up all sorts of shit off the desktop with adaware that mcafee didnt get. Now asside from mcaffee, there are things like…windows messenger.(i dont even use that, let alone him.) dell quickset(wtf is taht?) shopsafe(dont need it atm) and some little red symbol im not sure what is, i think it has something to do with adobe reader oh yeah and about 4 processes do to HP software.

Oh yeah, and one more thing…pretty much all day at work hes on that computer doing various things with it, either meetings or doing things with engine design. all on some variation of win OS. hes awesome with excel, and word, and powerpoint. and other various things. i just kinda expected him to be able to figure out what i was doing for him instead of flipping out when the msconfig sign pops up on startup. which i forgot to make it not do. but i fixed that. so when he flipped out, i just turned everything back on and said screw it.

so…lets contiune shall we :D

Okay. Just because some one is a Guru in Excel does not mean they know windows what so ever. There are other Processing programs (Lotus Notes for example) that work off the same basis. I know a lot about computers but a secretary could beat my pants off on mundane work in excel and word.

Next Point is that McAffee is a Virus Scanner NOT and I repeat NOT a SpyWare/MalWare scanner. if you are concerened about the processing power to render blue over silver you need to buy a new computer. If you want a good software to pick up MalWare and Spyware and Viral Infections look into AVG. It is decent and free.

I would just talk to you father and say to him, "Dad, I know what I am doing when I do this (if you really do) and I would appreciate you to not get upset when I change a few settings to better the performance we are going to get out of our computer." Now on the other hand if you remove shit that you do not know what it is and it happens to be a very important file then you are fucked. So I would be VERY careful what you remove from startup and what have you because I have screwed over a few OS Installs becuase I was tinkering. So be very careful what you do. if you do not know what it is look it up. and remember if google cannot answer you leave it.

The HP and Dell Software are from software packages on your computer. they are most likely not needed but they are most likely using up minimal ammounts of memory…again if this is a big concern I would suggest upgrading your computer ;)

Take it from Ol' AldarHawk…Do not mess with what you know not about but stand up for yourself and tell your dad what he needs to know.

I know what you mean. My comp is located in room that is open(no doors) so everyone can see what I'm doing if they want. But luckily everyone who lives with me know I'm learning to hack so there's no real problem just annoying. But that with grandma it was her first time to see what I'm doing all the time on computer. Thank god that's over.:D

What pisses me off more, is people who call themselves hackers who's 'hacking' has clearly never left HellBound Hackers or other sites of the sort.

LMAO that reminds me of me…

My parents know i hack…or KNEW i hacked, up until my internet was cut off about a month ago, and they thought i stopped hacking…then last night my mom found out i was still hacking.

But anywho, every time I talk to my dad about computers, he constantly questions my intellegence. He's always like 'I've been working with computers since before you were born. You know nothing, you're just being stupid. You may as well give up because your grades aren't high enough to ever continue with a computer.' Of course, I know that 70's and 80's aren't bad, but it still wouldn't hurt for him to have faith in me every now and then. See, what's hilarious is that once my internet was taken away, i was determined to get it back. I decided to build a computer. With my shortage of money, it was difficult to get good parts. In fact, i'm stuck with a Pentium II processor…lol. So my dad's looking at it and he's all like 'you cant try it until i've examined it and made it safe' and i'm like 'ok w/e'…So he looks at it, and he's all like 'wow. that's gonna be slow as hell' and i'm like 'oh I don't intend on booting Windows on it' and he was like "WTF OMG?!? THERE'S AN ALTERNATIVE TO WINDOWS?!"

just shows how much some people actually know.
