Constructive critism of course but I would love to see some programming masterclasses and less bits about hobbies.

TBH I don't give a crap about the PS2, it has nouwt to do with hacking

I agree about the fashion section though all in all i think it was a rather good zine :)

thats pretty much think i dont like about the zine. but overall it was a great zine

Mozzer, what do you mean PS/2 has nothing to do with Hacking? Hacking is not just about software, it's also about hardware… And if you can hack the system to your liking, then why is it not considered "hacking". Variety is good, and ensures that people who are into hardware hacking get their share of the entertainment.

I wasn't saying anything was wrong I was just making the point that it wasn't of interest to me. I still think that it should be more hacking based than anything else

Exellent zine !! :)

I think the fashion section was too long, but it was ok. Maybe next time have a "most popular" clothing thing, if there is going to be one at all, something about a page long that maybe members have voted on or something…

Everything else was great, loved the desktop one, but it didnt work on my bros pc :( I might start using it on my own as kind of security. If anyone trys to click my start button or documents icon, they'll be suprised to find none of my icons or taskbar works :)

So anyway, really enjoyed it, and I cant wait for issue 2 :D

Thanks to all the Zine staff

Thanx for the constructive criticism. We tried some new things. As for the focusing on just hacking well we wont be doing that. Thats kind of the point. We dont want to just focus on hacking. It the hacker culture as well. The clothes section was gonna change every issue. This issue was the skater look but next issue was gonna be some other look. But if noone really likes it we will cut it out.

The zine isnt articles to teach hacking. Its articles to entertain. Inform. Educate. We clearly dont teach hacking in the zine for legal puposes. :|

To start with I'll ask a question;

What is the difference between educating and teaching??

Then I'll go on to say that where in the zine does it mention hacker culture?

All it goes on about is;

FF and Hack4u's opinions on fashion, consoles and sport A couple of premade scripts The rest of it were tutorials which could have been ripped off the net

Well in this case educating will be solely based on what you read and what you gather from it.

Teaching would be us pointing you in every direction. Its based on you to learn about the things we talk about. And teach it to yourself.

Everyone has different views on everything. If you want to stick to just hacking and not other stuff then read BlackListed 411 or 2600 magazines.

WE try to be slightly different. And with a very small dedicated staff its hard to get so much about hacking into the zine.

Most of the time after 1 or 2 articles about hacking the staff doesnt know what to mention anymore. We need more staff. I wont say we dont. But we want a dedicated staff. No pay. No fame. But hard working staff. Thats what we have. With only 8 members. Trying to write a whole magazine in 1 month about nothing but hacking isnt the easiest thing.

Its really simple. Have articles about loads of things but a PHP/C++/Java masterclass would be easy. Also a column about ethics of hacking each month. It would soon add up

coding isnt interesting. making a padlock shim from a soda can is interesting i think. I personally like the hands on stuff.

I suppose as the editor then it is up to you what 'interesting' is.

I don't have a problem with you having you magazine but I don't like it having the title

'Articles of the Hacker Culture'

WTF did fashion/hacky sack have to do with the hacking culture????

ghost's Avatar

umm nothing.

but do you sit around your computer all day?

zine wants to connect members in a new way. maybe my article on hacky sack could possibly spark something in some1 to maybe try it.

i know frozen flame plays hacky sack. i mean i love it. it was an interest article. next time i wont do it. some1 else will.

as for clothes .. they were a thought . It didnt work so we are gonna pull them out from now on. But if you pull out all the interests out of the magazine then you would be left with about 3-4 articles.

so im guessing my expanded articles on Hacking Philosophy would be a waste of time to write?

No hacking philosophy is good but random articles which are irrelevant such as hacky sack i dislike.

ghost's Avatar

well we arnt here to please just you. what you dont like, others might.

and just because i choose to write about hands on things, doesnt mean everyone is. We have a wide variety of diffrent articles.

I know I will not win against your unwillingness to accept any constructive criticism so I will stop now. You will learn that as time continues it is usually better to listen to critisism and learn from it than to blatenly disagree with it

ghost's Avatar

im not disagreeing. im dropping the clothes, you wont see hackey sack next issue, and we will see how our staff works with new articles. k?

ghost's Avatar

Not to argue the point to death but you were never even considering having HS in two consecutive issues were you????

What are you considering putting in the next issue then?

ghost's Avatar

no hacky sack was only gonna be in 1 issue. it was a one time thing. next issue it might be someone elses turn to tell you about their hobby. what they do. after the staff is done going through hobbies. then we will look for hobbies of readers.

ive heard that some ppl collect video games. so if someone would have collected a ton of computer games we would be interested in a story like that.

look through a gaming mag or any other type of mag. sometimes there is only 1 or 2 things that interest you. some ppl dont read those mags. i dont read EGM every month. Only when i see something good ill read it.

mozzer, your criticism does not stand, nor is it constructive. Why don't you go wear your "Rainbow Hat"? Since you're not interested in "non hacking" material in the zine, do something you enjoy – like making words up. **sorry for being blunt, but that's just brutal honesty, in all seriousness.
