this is an article i just found while googleing for hacking related sites……i think they have grosily misunderstood HBH's purpose :P

http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/internet/2005/0507281102.asp?A=LEG&S=Legal%20View&O=E&CiRestriction=

incase u cant be asked to read the full article this is the key point iv picked up on

Cribb says that one of the most disturbing developments recently is the number of “hacker training sites” on the Web, such as “how2hack”, “hellboundhackers” and “hack4u”. Such sites offer “hacking challenges”, testing everything from basic Web-hacking and Javascript hacking, to application-cracking and more.

“These criminal communities help each other through IRC chat channels and build teams of people willing to share their knowledge and collaborate to solve hacking challenges.

I hate the image that most people have of hackers… I would bet you that just about any influential person in technology that has a desire for knowledge is a hacker or at least has been at some point. Just because you're a hacker doesn't mean that you take part in the defacing of sites or commit any other web crimes.

i did send him a email regarding how opinionized and illogical this article was. however i never got a reply.

Unfortunately, Thats true. I cant help but wonder, if that post is going to lead to someone searching this site.

What would happen then?

he would find a lot of white hat experts, some jokers, some gray hat guys, a black hat here or there. actually a bunch of people that have idea what HTML means.

isn't it weird how he didn't mention hts? now common, this site has multiple purposes to different people. it is possible to learn to hack to help people or defend urself, or to became a black hat destoyer machine. it's up to people what they do, not to the site offering knowledge. you can't accuse a man with a knife of being a killer. maybe he wanted to take a slice of bread. it's true that if there weren't hacker sites, there would probably be less hacks. but then again, the great problem are skiddies. i mean, why don't they accuse securiteam? skiddies find good xploits there. because securiteam aims to help people. so does hbh.

they should aim on skiddies. but then again, do they care?

"they're all the same"

i do not believe that any of us is in danger simply for having fun here. right?

"We are all the same" yet they dont hesitate professional hackers to secure their site for them. They cant guarentee that their site doesnt have a back door in it that only the hacker that put it there knows about. Why the **** does the world hate the rest of us that are legit? Its stupid. I think that someone should round up a group of about 60000 people, teach them about how hackers arent bad, then each of them tell 10 people. 60000 * 10 = 600000 * 10 = 6000000 and so on.

Maybe that one can get it through to people about hackers arent that bad.

Hell, even black hats arent as bad as most people think. its those DAMN script kiddies. I admit I am not elite, But I AM learning programming instead of going on the internet and downloading some stupid exloit. Bl4ckC4t

actually, i been thinking about the stereotype recently and im inclined to think… we fucking deserve it, basically.

virtually everyone and virtually every "hacking" site, such as this one etc… they all talk about "hacking" / "script kidies" / "black hats" .. but i think over the last few years the true meaning of being a hacker has been completely lost.

most people who use the term, or wish to learn how to become a "hacker" do it for one purpose only.. to hack everything they can and become famous. or to impress their friends, or to be "powerful". This coudlnt be more wrong and completely fucked up the true meaning of it.

Take a look at nearly every single "hacking group" out there. to name but a few… locus7 .. A99 … g00ns .. myg0t.. they all call themselves "hackers" but what do they actualyl do… troll around the itnernet looking for absolutly any site they can get to hack… for the sole purpose of defacing it to become famous. Just as when they attack other hacking sites as this one, sole purpose is for fame and the illusion of "power".

More and more people are doing this nowadays and its the presise reason everyone wants to start learning about "hacking". the whole idealogy of hacking is lost. As my signiture states and as i strongly believe.. hacking isnt just about computers / exploits, its a whole philopshy that can be applied to everything.

The group i run "Subliminal Hackers" (as many of you might have heard).. is one of the only groupsi have heard who actually try to make a difference to teh world, takingup the job that i feel is so important to hackers. I've only heard of one other group who does what SHC does, and that group died out years ago and wasnt as advaned as SHC today. What we do is remove unethical sites such as racism and other various hate sites. We do what is morraly correct and we never target any website without proper ethical reasons. i wont disclose much information for obvious reasons.. but the work shc does is unmatched in any other group i and others have heard of. the work shc does has actually helped hundreds of people across the globe(online/offline) and has cleaned up several hate related websites most of the ones attacked are now empty and bare when they were once thriving communites filled with illogical racism..

But quite frankly is the reasons people are getting involved in hacking are for "fame" and "power", and if theres no other groups out there like SHC, then what is everyone surposed to think? "we" bring the whole stereotype on ourselves, so i feel we deserve all the negative stereotypes we get.

Now call me old fashioned and over the top, but i started hacking so i could actually make a difference in this world. I started hacking to help people. I started hacking to bring unethical sites off the internet to protect eveyrone else, because they corrupt kids / easily corruptable minds.

Now dont get my wrong, im not saying dont defend hackers when someone negatively stereotypes them. Ofcourse you should defend the whole idealogy. But dont you think we should first understand the whole idealogy ourselvs first.. before we go critising what others think?

Im a bit fed up and tired of everyone on these types of forums (not just hbh) going around saying the word "hacker" and thinking they know it all, and start flaming everyone who says something negative about hackers. The majority of these people have no concept of what it is to be a hacker, and thats made clear by their type of posts.

Perhaps we need to take a good look at what we think a hacker is, and perhaps reevaulate whether we class ourselves as a true hacker, and what is it we want to become. How can we justify hacking and critise negative stereotypes if we ourselves dont even know what a hacker is.

I couldn't agree more. It's pathetic how many 'hackers' have asked me how many sites i've defaced, and been shocked when i say 'i have no need to deface any'… But i guess i can't really call myself a good hacker either, i haven't done anything for a good purpose either. I guess this could go both ways.

I agree in a way. I dont classify myself as a true hacker, I classify myself as a person that wants to learn more about computers. I agree that hate should be erased. I also agree that it is near impossible to remove all hate. The hacking community is hated and feared my millions of people because THEY dont know what a true hacker is.

I wanted to learn to hack because I wanted to help people rid the world of hate. I now know what it takes to make a difference, even if it means that I will be loathed my many. Hacking is about learning. Its not about how elite you are or how keen you are. Its about learning. You can brag about how many websites you have defaced, But if you do that too many times for no reason, you wind up behind steel bars. The world will always hate hackers and there will be those hackers that do good for the world. Learn to hack, Hack to learn Its all a virtual world with many computers. I agree that its a philosophy.
