Threat to the internet?

I have seen quite a few things saying** that there is a major threat to the internet,

read here http://www.savetheinternet.com/

it talks about a new law being pushed that will enable Verizon, comcast and other big Internet providers to determine what sites load for us the quickest depending on how much they are being payed by them. And the sites that dont shell out the cash will load slowly or not at all ( im pretty sure).

can someone please tell me if this is true, because if it is something is very wrong………

As quoted from Wikipedia:

By late 2005, network neutrality provisions were included in several Congressional draft bills, as a part of ongoing proposals to reform the Telecommunications Act of 1996. They would generally require internet providers to allow consumers access to any application, content, or service. However, important exceptions allow providers to discriminate for security purposes, or to offer specialized services like "broadband video" service.

On March 30, 2006 press release Rep Fred Upton (Michigan) chaired a subcommittee hearing for a mark up of the Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Efficiency Act of 2006 scheduled for the week of April 4th.

And trust me, there's always a way around it.

Yes, I've seen that and your idea of it is very much the way it sounds from other sources I've seen. However, I don't think websites will load faster or slower, just simply it will load or it won't load.

Here's an article about it on IndyMedia US: http://indymedia.us/en/2006/04/15946.shtml With links to more websites to check out.
